THE STRENGTH OF THE WOLF IS ITS PACK
November 12, 2021
Dear Wasco Families,
Did you know Wasco Art has some long standing traditions? There are many families who treasure the creations fostered by Mrs. Anderson! Like all of our learning, the Art curriculum provides our teacher and students with a progression of skills. In the clay medium, students begin learning a variety of techniques like slabs, pinching and pulling. As our artists develop through the grade levels their techniques evolve building on these fundamentals with the addition of coiling, and the ability to attach clay using slip and score . As leader of the building I get the thrill of experiencing the education your child receives from all of their teachers. Our district leadership coordinates learning between the subjects for the teachers and student’s benefits. We want students to have many avenues to connect, apply, and express their learning throughout the day.
Kind Regards,
Principal Brennan
World Kindness Day
Request from PE Department
As the weather gets colder, Gr. 2-5 PE classes will try to go outside as much as possible so students can get fresh air. Please make sure your student is dressed appropriately for outdoor temperatures including coat, hats, and gloves. Once it snows, snow gear will be needed and we will try to get outside for snow games. K-1 is using the gym learning how to move safely, practicing basic skills, activities and games, including taking turns and sharing equipment.
A note from Mrs. Furlong in the LRC….
The Wasco LRC has had an exciting few weeks of introducing classes to two book awards: The AISLE Monarch (grades K-3) and Bluestem (grades 3-5). These are Illinois awards in which students will vote for their favorite title mid- March in the LRC if they have read, or have read to them, 5 or more titles. Participation is optional. Results for the school and state will be shared at the end of March.
For more information about each award, as well as a complete list of nominees, please visit the AISLE sites linked here for Monarch OR Bluestem.
E-Learning Plan and Emergency Days
The School Board has approved an E-Learning plan that gives the district the option to offer remote learning in place of emergency days. Currently, our last day of school is Tuesday, May 24, which is the week before Memorial Day. As we move into the winter months, we want to update you on the plan for how the district will manage emergency days and e-learning days.
If we experience inclement weather, the first three days will be “snow days” that will be made up at the end of the school year on May 25, 26, and 27 as needed.
Subsequent emergency days will be remote days so the last attendance day will still be before Memorial Day.
If there is a long stretch of inclement weather (blizzard, polar vortex, etc.), we may split the days into “snow days” and e-learning days so as to not have too many non-attendance days in a row.

Let's Get To Know...
Rebecca Schroeder
Social Worker
Hi! I’m Rebecca Schroeder, the school social worker at Wasco! I LOVE working with students and supporting their social and emotional growth. It is so important in their development! I value student relationships and work hard to foster them. I’m always trying to learn new student names and faces! The wisdom I would like to pass on to my students is to believe in yourself and know that your challenges help you grow!
On weekends I love to spend time with my three children and family. Our weekends are often filled with sports, activities, and getting together with our friends and family. Something you may not know about me is I love to run-from 5K races to marathons!
