APPLYING EARLY ACTION OR EARLY DECISION?
If you are applying Early Action or Early Decision with a deadline of November 1st or November 15th, please be sure to see your counselor ASAP to review your application and submission of materials!
APPLICATION ESSAY ... TIPS TO MAKE YOUR ESSAY STAND OUT AMONG THE CROWD!
- Be sure to tell a story that grabs the readers attention and engages them!
- Be truthful and represent yourself in the best way possible; be passionate and personal.
- Tell the reader something they can't gain from reviewing your application.
- Use simple language and tone; correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation are a must.
- Write a rough draft ... revise it ... edit it ... proofread it ... polish it ... then submit it!
INSTANT ADMIT DAYS!
Two local community colleges will be participating in an "Instant Admission Day" right at our high school!! During these events, students can apply and be accepted in the same day ... and all application fees will be waived! Be sure to stop by Student Services to sign up and learn how to complete your application before the Instant Admit Day!

THE FAFSA IS NOW AVAILABLE!
If applying to schools in New York State, you will also want to apply for TAP (Tuition Assistance Program). The easiest way to apply for TAP is through the FAFSA. You can link directly to the TAP application from the FAFSA submission confirmation page.
If you exit the FAFSA before completing the TAP application, you will receive an email from HESC (Higher Education Services Corporation) with directions on how to complete the TAP application online.
SCHOLARSHIPS ARE STARTING TO TRICKLE IN ...
- NHS Scholarship: eligible applicants are seniors in good standing who are members of National Honor Society. Please see Mrs. McKinley for the application.
The New York Credit Union Association Scholarship: Eligible applicants must be a member in good standing of a participating New York credit union. Judging will be based on both subjective criteria and weighted, objective criteria. These include academic achievements, extracurricular and community activities, essay, etc. Deadline: January 10, 2020
Violet Richardson Award: given by the Soroptimist International of Saratoga County to celebrate young women between the ages of 14-18 for their volunteerism. The SISC will give priority to those who have demonstrated the ability to identify a problem and created a solution to solve it (i.e.: fighting drugs, crime, and violence; focusing on environmental issues; etc.). Applicants who have shown significant accomplishments in volunteerism will also be highly considered. Applications can be found online. Deadline: December 31, 2019.
Boston University Trustee Scholarship: Eligible applicants rank at the top of their class and are strong leaders in both their school and their community. If interested in applying, students must submit their application for admission to Boston University, along with one additional essay, by December 1, 2019.
Elks Foundation - 2020 Most Valuable Student: A scholarship opportunity available for students who demonstrate scholarship, leadership, and financial need. Applications are currently available online. Deadline: November 5, 2019
Elks Legacy Awards: Eligible applicants must be a child or grandchild of a living Elk member in good standing who joined the order on or before April 1, 2017. More information can be found online. Deadline: January 31, 2020
John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest: eligible applicants must submit an essay of 700-1000 words (with five sources) describing an act of political courage (at the local, state, or national level) by a U.S. elected official who served during or after 1917. More detailed essay contest information can be found online. Deadline: January 18, 2019
- The American Legion "A Constitutional Speech Contest": the purpose of the Oratorical Scholarship Program Speech Contest is to develop knowledge and appreciation of the United State's Constitution. Scholarship money is available depending on the level of advancement a student makes through the contest. Prepared speeches are required to be no less than 8 minutes yet no greater than 10 minutes in length and must be memorized by the student and then presented to an audience. Speeches and an application form are due by November 16, 2019. Applications are available in Student Services.
