Community Update
September 8, 2020
Esteemed Parents and Staff,
Welcome Back to school! Our entire Vista Unified team has been working hard to prepare for a great start of the 2020-21 school year. We have prepared an official welcome back video with a message from each board member and me about our charge as a school district in these challenging times.
Technology Support as Students Get Connected
The initial area of focus for all teachers and students this week will be to set-up technology at home and get connected to the internet and the Canvas classroom. Please know that there are a number of support systems in place if you need assistance. Here is a list of the systems that you may utilize to get support:
Contact your student's teacher. Each teacher will be reaching out to all of their students to make sure that they have what they need to get connected to their virtual classroom.
Call your school. The office staff and administration are eager to support you to get connected.
Call or email your Family and Community Engagement Liaison. This great team is always ready to support your needs. All community liaisons are bilingual.
Call or email the Information Technology Help Desk.
Submit a request on our School Reopening website at the bottom of the page through the “Contact Us” button.
Family and Community Engagement
Our team of liaisons are ready to go to support parents as they get their students connected and engage in their new classrooms. Specifically, our FACE network will be laser-focused during the first week of the school year on assisting parents and students with registration, accessing child nutritional services, getting connected to a computer device and internet, and navigating the new learning management system called Canvas. The liaisons have a huge new library of short videos that were designed to give parents simple, easy-to-understand tutorials on a variety of topics related to the Vista Virtual learning environment. This new video series is called VIP (Vista Institute for Parents). The FACE network has also set up a district-wide calendar of events for parents. This calendar is a powerful tool for parents to use to be informed and get involved.
Thank you again for your patience and support as we work to reopen our schools during these challenging times. Vista Unified is committed to creating a positive learning experience for all students. We are all in this together.
Sincerely,
Matt Doyle, Ed.D.
