OBOB Winning Team
Congratulations Chapter Champions: Addy, Zoe, Dinorah, Kennedy and Cheng Yi for being this year's OBOB champions!
Story Walk
A story walk is a simple but engaging concept: invite readers to walk along a path while reading a book. The story is posted along a trail, nature path, wall, or in our case, a fence for readers to read as they walk along to find the next page of the book. Story walks bring together literacy, movement and the outdoors/nature. Thanks to Ms. Klingner's class for our first Bonny Slope story walk. 🙂
Kindness in the Classroom
Below is the description of the third grade unit for this month's Kindness in the Classroom topic. It is the same topic for all grade levels and each grade level will cover the same concepts.
Unit Objective
Students will:
- Review the concepts of respect and caring.
- Highlight similarities regardless of preconceived notions of differences.
- Explore the difference between fair and equal.
- Understand the relationship between kindness and inclusiveness.
Families can support this work at home by talking with students about what they are learning about including others and ways they can promote inclusiveness at school.

Repeat: Raptor Safe App - for quicker sign in at school!
We are excited to announce that our district is adopting the Raptor Safe mobile app as part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing school safety and streamlining visitor management in our schools. This app builds on our existing visitor procedures, offering a more convenient and secure check-in process for everyone.
What is the Raptor Safe App?
The Raptor Safe app offers a convenient and secure way for visitors to manage and verify their identity before arriving at a school. With the Raptor Passport feature, visitors can pre-verify their identity, allowing for a seamless sign-in process when they arrive on campus.
How Does It Work?
When visiting a school, visitors can use their secure QR code generated by the app to expedite the check-in process. QR codes automatically regenerate every 5 minutes to ensure security and prevent misuse. Please remember that our visitor wiFi and phone service are not always reliable in our building which may hinder the use of the Raptor Safe App.
Getting Started
The Raptor Safe app is available to all visitors across the district. To download the app, please visit https://raptortech.com/raptorsafe-app/.
For questions or assistance, please contact Bonny Slope Office staff: 503.356.2040 or bslp-communications@beaverton.k12.or.us . Thank you for helping us keep our schools safe.
Ways to Volunteer at Bonny Slope
There has been some concern shared about the changes in the way volunteer opportunities are shared, and the volunteer sign up process. Because the school district now requires volunteer sign ups to be posted in ParentSquare, BSCO is limited in the way they can request volunteers and share opportunities. The volunteer opportunities that BSCO manages can only be posted in ParentSquare, and it is not possible to include links to the sign up in this newsletter or anywhere outside of ParentSquare. There are a couple of ways families can get BSCO event sign up information.
1) BSCO sends a newsletter in ParentSquare with the volunteer information
2) Families can check ParentSquare and access the Sign Ups any time
Classroom teachers manage their own volunteer opportunities and will send out their own information about how to sign up. If you are interested in volunteering in the classroom, please reach out to the classroom teacher. Teachers will sometimes not have volunteer needs.
We appreciate all of our volunteers! Please reach out to the office if you would like any help with finding the sign ups.
On a desktop, the volunteer sign ups can be found in the menu as shown below.
On a phone, go to the three dot menu at the bottom

BSCO Volunteer Needs
Art literacy needs volunteers for the lessons on Louis Comfort Tiffany. Sign up in ParentSquare by teacher. "Art helpers" do not need to have attended training. The project for this lesson is collage.
Valentine's Day Parties could use a few more parent volunteers in the following classrooms:
Seropian
Swardstrom
POST
Klingner
Vaughn
The BSE Library needs your support. Help reshelve or repair books. Read to Kindergarten/1st/2nd grade. You can work shifts at any time of the day for any length of time.
GeoClub has an upcoming check day on Feb 26th. Volunteers are needed to check student's knowledge: Africa part 2. Morning and afternoon shifts are available!
