Fundraiser for the Publications Classes
Photography and Digital Content Creation Education
Hello, my name is Dr. Michael Sparks, and I am a secondary English Language Arts teacher while also teaching a photography and digital content creation class.
I have been a teacher for 15 years and enjoy it very much. A component of my passion for teaching is making sure that my students have all of the resources they need to be successful.
Towards that end, my Publications class (which is the name for my photography and digital content creation class; we also design and publish our school's yearbook) is in need of a refresh on certain classroom supplies. If I am able to raise the money necessary for this project, the materials that I am hoping to buy are as follows:
3-4 new Canon cameras
Photo Printer (large one)
Mobile photo printers (for our Photo Booth shoots)
Assorted photo equipment (SD cards, softbox lights, new tripods, specialty lenses, storage and security equipment, batteries, etc.)
Photo booth hardware that will be used at school/community events for students and community members to enjoy
Several digital cameras that students will use for yearbook production
Continued access to photo editing software, such as Adobe's Lightroom
My students enjoy this class immensely and I am wanting to make sure that they have the best materials that are feasible. As our world changes, photography, videography, and content creation are occupying a more central role in future job markets. Moreover, these skills are fun and passion-inducing for my young learners.
Each of our donors will be celebrated this year and next via our video announcements and other community communications.
Even though students in the Publications class are the direct recipients of this fundraiser, all Falcons will benefit from it for many years.
Every donation, no matter how small, is so greatly appreciated by our students.
If you have any questions, please contact me at michael.sparks@bvsd.org
8th Grade Continuation
BHMS 8th Grade Continuation is scheduled for Thursday May 23rd! We need parents/caregivers who are interested in working with BHMS staff to plan, coordinate, and run this event for our 8th grade students and families. In past years it has been great to have 7th and 6th grade parents sign up to help 8th grade parents make this a fun, successful event for the 8th grade students. Continuation typically includes a ceremony and short reception for students and families followed by a social for 8th grade students and Staff. Please sign up if you are interested in helping and someone will reach out to you soon. Thank you!
Yearbook Orders Are Open!
It’s time to order and pay for your student’s yearbook via REVTRAK (not IC), if you haven't already done so. There is a button specifically for the yearbook once you sign into REVTRAK.Just click on that button, add it to your cart and make your payment. They are $20 each. Please note, this is separate from the baby picture fee for 8th graders who opted to have their baby pictures published in this year’s book.
Summer Career Explorers Program
The Broomfield Workforce Center is hosting a Summer Career Explorers Program and the application process is open.
This is a special program geared towards incoming 8-11th grade students. We have a number of tours set up. This will give students first hand experience in what certain careers are truly like.
Broomfield area students are invited to apply. We would love to see more Broomfield Students in the program this Summer.
Please share this attached flier with your school resource officers, guidance counselors, etc...
If you have any questions, please connect with Marci Machuga (mmachuga@broomfield.org). She is our Youth Program Manager and she is wonderful!
From the Health Room
Please make arrangements to pick up your child’s medication(s) on or before the last day of school. If it is not absolutely necessary for this medication to be at school until the last day of classes, then please pick up the medication as soon as possible.
Any medication not picked up by the end of the day on the last day of school will be disposed of.
If your student will need us to administer medication next year, please have your healthcare provider complete the Medication Administration Authorization Form. All medication orders must be renewed each new school year. The BVSD Medication Administration Authorization form can be found on the BVSD Health Services Site under Student Health Forms.
Counseling Corner
Have you ever had a small misunderstanding with someone that quickly turned into a big argument? It can be really frustrating and upsetting when that happens. But there's a way to prevent it from happening: it's called proactive communication.
Proactive communication means being clear and honest about how you feel, listening carefully to others, and trying to find common ground. Here are three tips to help you communicate proactively:
1. Speak clearly: When you talk to someone, make sure you say exactly what you mean. Don't use vague or confusing language that can be misunderstood. Try not to blame the other person for anything, and instead focus on explaining how you feel in a nice way.
2. Listen carefully: Proactive communication involves both speaking and listening. When someone is talking to you, give them your full attention. Don't interrupt or talk over them, and ask questions if you don't understand something. This will help you understand their point of view better and find common ground.
3. Find common ground: Proactive communication is all about finding ways to work together and solve problems. When you're talking to someone, try to find things you agree on and build from there. Even if you don't agree on everything, you can still find ways to compromise and work together.
In conclusion, proactive communication is a great way to prevent arguments and misunderstandings. By being clear and honest, listening carefully, and finding common ground, you can communicate better with others and build stronger relationships. So next time you're in a tough situation, remember these tips and try to communicate proactively.
