STUDENT(S) OF THE MONTH

A WORD FROM PRINCIPAL WILSON
Dear Taylor Families,
It’s hard to believe this is our final newsletter of the school year! What an incredible year it has been at Taylor. I feel so grateful and honored to spend each day with your amazing children, it truly has been the best year!
We have a fun and full month ahead, packed with celebrations, special events, and opportunities to end the year strong.
Teacher Appreciation Week – May 5th–9th
We are lucky to have such an incredible team of educators at Taylor. Teacher Appreciation Week is a special time to celebrate the dedication, heart, and hard work they bring every day. Thank you to our amazing PTO for helping make this week extra special for our staff!
Looking for ideas to show your child’s teacher some love? Here are a few thoughtful and fun suggestions:
Sweet treats
A heartfelt thank-you card
Poem or drawing from your child
Fresh Flowers (Store bought or hand-picked!)
Coffee or tea surprise
Special Olympics – May 6th
We are so proud of our Taylor Tornadoes who will be participating in the Special Olympics on Tuesday, May 6th! Our school community will be cheering them on as they head out that morning. We know they will represent Taylor with pride and heart—go Tornadoes!
Celebrating Our 5th Graders
Our 5th graders are getting ready to take the next big step in their academic journey. It has been a joy to watch them grow this year. They are leaving Taylor as confident, kind, and capable individuals, ready to take on middle school and beyond. We’re so proud of who they’ve become!
Theme of the Month: Generosity
For the month of May, we are focusing on the theme of Generosity. We’re encouraging students to give and share with kindness in their hearts—whether it’s offering a helping hand, opening a door, or sharing at recess. Small acts of generosity make a big impact. Let’s all commit to spreading kindness this month!
Summer Bond Work & Last Day of School – May 19th
Our last day of school will be Monday, May 19th, following the D51 School Board's approval to end two days earlier than planned. This adjustment allows time for major improvement projects, including new sprinkler systems, asbestos abatement, front office/lobby updates, and exciting changes to our library space.
From May 26 through June 5, the Taylor Elementary office staff will be temporarily relocated to the Emerson Building in the Instructional Conference Room. You can still reach the office team during their regular hours using the usual phone number and email addresses.
Thank you for an unforgettable year. I hope your summer is filled with joy, rest, and time spent doing what you love with the people you love.
As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.
Warmly,
Shawn Wilson
Taylor Principal

PTO News
Thank you all for making 2024 a spectacular year! Thanks to your generosity, we raised $14,400.73 to support the teachers and students of Taylor Elementary. We were able to support fun family events, including the walk-a-thon, 'Ole-Fashioned Christmas, silent auction, Donuts with your Darlings, and a read-in. Through funds raised, we are proud to have been able to fund teacher development opportunities, teacher appreciation week festivities, classroom supplies, feminine hygiene products for the nurse’s office, field trips, CMAS prizes, Student of the Month swag, welcome events for arriving families from Clifton, end of year field day for all students and graduation for 5th graders, and much more.
In the 2025-2026 school year we want to target more family engagement activities. Please take a few minutes to complete this brief survey to provide us with feedback and let us know what you would like us to try in the future.

COUNSELOR'S CORNER WITH MS. SERENITY
The flowers are blooming and the weather feels like spring as we head into May and look forward to summer and extra quality family time! Field day and 5th grade graduation will be here before we know it! In the meantime, the students will be learning about the following concepts in their lessons with Ms. Serenity this month:
Kindergarten and 5th grade are teaming up to learn more about their personalities, strengths, and preferences by completing the knowandlove.com personality quiz.
1st graders, 2nd graders and 3rd graders are practicing the “STOP, name your feeling, calm down” protocol to help us all remember to take deep breaths, count and use positive self-talk when comfortable feelings arise.
4th grade is practicing how to ask to join in a group and how to invite someone to join your group.
Our Changing Families group will wrap up on May 2 and our final Calm Ninjas group will be complete May 13. If you are looking for resources for your family over the summer, Grand Valley Connects may be able to help. They are a division of Mesa County Services and can help you navigate resources in our area. To learn more, visit the Mesa County website or just type “Grand Valley Connects” into your search bar.
I hope you all find some time to play, have fun, laugh and get outside this summer! Stay safe and we’ll see you in August! As always, feel free to contact me anytime:
