VOGELTOWN SCHOOL PANUI
TE KURA O HUATOKI. TERM 4, WEEK 5, 2024.
KIA ORA VOGELTOWN WHĀNAU!
VOGELTOWN’S GOT TALENT
Tēnā koutou katoa.
Wow, what a show it was last Friday! It was so good I think we might need to add a line to our new signage that says Vogeltown’s Got Talent!
All of the children who performed were absolutely amazing and made it a tough afternoon for our judges, which you can see in the placings. Every one of you had the audience talking between acts with your wonderful talents.
Congratulations to the following children for their placings:
1st equal: Mia Vooght and Emilie Gane
3rd equal: Charlie Morrison, Sarah Martins Saotome, Mila Donaldson and Freya Gray
It takes a lot of guts to get up on stage and perform in front of everyone, and you all did it like true stars. I mean, after seeing some of those dance moves, the teachers act had some serious competition! There is a link below so you can watch a video of the teachers dance.
Keep working on those talents - you never know where that special thing you can do will take you! And remember, no matter what stage you’re on, you’ll always have a school full of Vogeltowners behind you!
Bravo, everyone! Keep shining!

SUMMER SOCCER SPORTSMANSHIP
Summer soccer is such a wonderful opportunity and we have many children participating.
I want to remind everyone about the importance of fair play and being a good sport. The true heart of sports lies in how we play the game and how we treat each other.
Being a good sport means respecting the rules, listening to our coaches and referees, and supporting both our teammates and the other team. When we play fairly and respectfully, we show others what it means to be part of our school community. It’s about giving our best, celebrating the efforts of others, and handling decisions nicely.
It is equally important that all parents are supportive of the coaches and referees. They are giving precious time to help, so lets ensure they feel supported through our actions and words.
Remember, the scoreboard might show the score, but it’s our attitude and actions that show our character. Let’s make sure that on and off the field, we’re a school known for our respect, our fairness, and our great school spirit.
FAREWELL TO DEB HARLAN
Yesterday we said farewell to Deb Harlan - someone who has been a big part of our school community and made a difference for many students at Vogeltown School.
Deb has been a presence in our classrooms form many years, offering her support to students and teachers alike. In addition to her work in the classroom, she has led our ESOL support programme supporting many students who are learning English - helping them to find confidence in a new language and feel at home in our school.
We thank her for the years of service, commitment, and hard work and wish her the very best with her ‘to do’ list as she enters this exciting new phase!
CONCERNS AND COMPLAINTS
At Vogeltown School, anyone who wants to bring a matter to the attention of the school should follow our procedure for raising concerns and complaints.
Anyone who has a concern or complaint should raise it as soon as possible with an appropriate person at the school. This can be done verbally or in writing and usually involves the staff member directly involved.
If this is not appropriate or if there is no staff member directly involved, concerns may be raised with another relevant staff member (e.g. the syndicate leader, a member of the management team, or the Principal). The person who receives the concern or complaint may refer the matter to a more appropriate person if needed, or involve another person.
If you feel that your concern or complaint hasn't been resolved by speaking directly with a staff member involved, or it doesn't feel comfortable speaking with that person, or is very serious in nature, you may contact a member of the management team, or the Principal.
We expect all parties involved to respect privacy and confidentiality. This includes not publicly sharing information about the matter (e.g. on social media).
More information can be found out about our Concerns and Complaints Policy and procedures by heading to https://www.schooldocs.co.nz/
SCHOOL PRODUCTIONS
We are very excited about our upcoming school productions! The decision to split into syndicates for this was to allow them a little more autonomy during what is a very busy term and to give them the chance to put together a performance suited to the interest and abilities of the children.
All our syndicates will be having two sessions of their production held in our school hall.
One is a matinee from 12pm to 1pm, one is an evening session from 5:30pm to 6:30pm.
The Paetoki (senior) syndicate production is called ‘The Battle of the Mountains’.
They will be performing this in their two sessions on Wednesday 20th November.
The Huatoki (middle) syndicate production is called ‘The Great White Man-Eating Shark’.
They will be performing this in their two sessions on Wednesday 27th November.
The Taranaki (junior) syndicate production is called ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’.
They will be performing this in their two sessions on Wednesday 4th December.
More information will come from your child’s teacher which will include details around costumes, and timings for drop off/pick up for the evening performances.
We look forward to seeing you there!
SCHOOL PHOTOS
An email from Photolife has gone out to all families, including details on how to order photos. Some families have said this email went into their junk or spam folders.
If you still haven't received it, please contact the school office and we will give you the details.
Orders must be placed by midnight on Sunday 17th November for free delivery to school. Any orders placed after this time will incur a postage fee for delivery to your home.
COOKIE TIME - LAST DAY FOR ORDERS!
Today is the last day for Cookie Time orders! You can place your order via Kindo. The cookie buckets make great Christmas gifts!
HATS IN TERM 4
It's now that time of year when our tamariki need protection from the sun's harmful rays - bucket hats must be worn every day during Term 4. We have the famous Vogeltown School bucket hats for sale at the senior office for $20 each, but any bucket hat can be worn. Children not wearing a hat will need to remain in a shaded area during break times. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
