Kindness Campaign is Underway!
Dear Families and Community,
Our Kindness Campaign is off to a terrific start! It was such a treat to see the ways our staff and students thanked and honored Mrs. Wenz during National School Counseling Week last week. Kids worked on positive sticky notes for an interactive bulletin board so they could create affirming messages for our community to give and take (see below). Our students are also really leaning in to our daily Kindness Calendar challenges.
This week, we are focusing on Kindness in our School! This year for our kindness drive, Terra Linda will be supporting the McKinney-Vento program. Our 5th grade Leadership Team is teaching our student body about McKinney Vento and kicking off our Kindness Drive during Tiger TV in order to prepare for next week's theme, Kindness in our Community.
The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act is a law that ensures the educational rights and protections of children who are experiencing homelessness.
The McKinney-Vento program in Beaverton serves students and families all over the Beaverton School District including students of the Terra Linda Community.
Starting this Tuesday, February 13th, we are collecting the following new and unused items to support McKinney-Vento:
Quarters for Laundry
Laundry Detergent (Pods preferred)/Dryer Sheets
Deodorant
Soft toothbrushes and toothpaste
Shaving Cream
Hair brushes and hair products
Bar soaps + body wash
Shampoo + conditioner
Socks for women + children (they have an excess of men's socks)
Toilet Paper
Paper Towels
If you are able, please send any of these items to school with your students.
Thank you so much for your generosity and support of this important cause!
Don't forget these upcoming Spirit Days!
Friday, 2/16 - Terra Linda Spirit Wear or School Colors Day
Friday, 2/23 - "Workout your problems with kindness" Workout/Sportswear Day
Friday, 3/1 - “Step up for Kindness" Silly Sock Day
My best,
Wendy ❤️
A reminder: Per previously developed agreements, please do not send class Valentines and/or candy to school to with your children on February 14.
We are grateful to be elevating friendship, inclusivity and kindness through our Kindness Campaign and will continue to do so year-round in our everyday actions with one another and through our district adopted Kindness In The Classroom curriculum.
What a fun assembly!
Thanks to our awesome and generous PTC, we welcomed Greg Bennick to our school this morning to share messages about kindness with our students. Greg used his sense his humor and juggling tricks to highlight his core messages about kindness:
- Be kind!
- Say yes (when people ask you to join).
- It's up to you (you can make people feel great).
- Teamwork (pay attention to others)
- Practice every day (like Greg has practiced his juggling).
The students enjoyed it very much! Thanks, PTC!!
