ALL THINGS BACK TO SCHOOL๐
How do I find out about my child's teacher or their schedule?
Be on the lookout for information from your child's school site on upcoming dates to pick up schedules, find out who their teacher is, and more. This type of information will come from your child's school! If you did not receive communication from your child's school with this information, reach out to the school site beginning August 7th.
What will my student's bell schedule look like?
Click HERE to for a full list of bell schedules for each site.
I need to get a bus pass. Where do I go?
All things transportation happen through the District Office. Click HERE for bus pass applications and information on bussing. Not all schools offer transportation, please see the application to see if you qualify (if your child's school is not listed on the application, you do not qualify). We offer transportation to all families who live outside of our city limits.
NOTE: Bus routes and times are still being finalized and will be posted on the transportation page under 'Information'.
What about food? What can I expect?
Universal meals continues this school year (and every school year moving forward!) - meaning, all students are offered a free breakfast and lunch daily. Although meals are free for all students, it helps our department if you still fill out a meal application. You can do that by clicking HERE. Food service is making some major improvements this year. Be sure to read more about what's happening in Food Service in this newsletter. Menus will also be available soon - you can find those HERE.
What will the calendar year look like?
Click HERE for the full district calendar. This will tell you when breaks are, early release days and more!
How will I receive communication?
This will vary depending on your child's school site. Typically, elementary families receive a weekly newsletter-style communication from the principal. Our middle and high schools typically communicate via email in a bi-weekly or monthly fashion - among the additional teacher and site notifications. Most sites utilize our district communication platform called ParentSquare. You can find out more about how to download the ParentSquare app and use ParentSquare HERE. The District uses ParentSquare to communicate with families and staff in the event of an emergency.
Our middle and high schools utilize Schoology as a learning management system for all around academic and school information. For more information on Schoology, visit your child's school website or contact your child's school directly.
What about safety?
COVID๐ค
COVID Protocols
As of right now, there are no changes to the COVID protocols from when the last school year ended. The biggest change will be in how families can find out if there have been any positive cases at their school site. Rather than sending ParentSquare notifications, families wishing to check recent COVID cases/locations can use the tool on the district website HERE. Information on current protocols, including recommended isolation periods and returning to school after a positive COVID test result can be found on this same page.
WHAT'S COOKING IN FOOD SERVICE THIS YEAR๐ฅฆ
New Year, New Look!
We are excited to announce a new look for our Food Service Department! Plateful by WPUSD is our official new department name and we have a new logo! We are excited for school year 2023 - 2024 and look forward to offering better, more delicious, scratch cooked meals for our students.
Read more about what's on the plate for this year (see what we did there?๐).
PLAYGROUND UPGRADES!๐
Sheridan and Carlin C. Coppin received new playgrounds over the summer and Twelve Bridges Elementary, Foskett Ranch and Lincoln Crossing all received new playground matting called Play and Pour. Play and Pour surfacing is a 3 1/2" thick rubberized surfacing designed to provide a fall cushion from apparatus areas and be weather resistant. The material is graded to ensure water runs off of the area, thereby enabling play on the structure immediately after rain!

EARNING COLLEGE CREDITS IN HIGH SCHOOL๐
Hear from Chuck Whitecotton, Director of Alternative Education on opportunities for students to dually enroll at Sierra College!
"Dual enrollment is an innovative concept that allows high school students to enroll in community college courses while continuing their regular high school classes. ANNUAL EMERGENCY CONTACT UPDATE/VERIFICATION
Review/Update Your Emergency Contact Information 2023-2024
At the end of last school year, your child's school sent out notifications to update/verify your emergency contact information using your PowerSchool Parent Portal. As a reminder, this needs to be completed by every family to begin the school year. If it is not completed before the start of the 2023-2024 school year, it may impact your students' ability to find our who their teacher is, receive their schedule, or participate in extracurricular activities.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Families who recently registered their child for school (new to WPUSD) do NOT need to complete this process.
For instructions on how to access your PowerSchool Parent Portal account click HERE.
COMPLETE THE HOUSEHOLD INCOME FORM
Please Complete a 2023-24 Household Income Form to Help Your School Maximize Its Funding!
DID YOU KNOW?
A portion of every school's funding is determined by the needs of its students. Extra funding is usually distributed to schools based on submitted free/reduced meal applications but this year the state is providing schools with the option of using the Household Income Form. This form can easily be completed online and will provide your school with extra funding. Please note that for the 2023-2024 school year all students are eligible for FREE meals, so extra funding will be distributed differently and the Household Income Form is the best source to increase your schoolโs funding.
WHY FILL OUT THE FORM?
- additional support staff for schools, like Instructional Aides, Intervention Support Providers, and after school tutors
- more resources for classrooms and teachers
- additional health and wellness services
- fee waivers for college applications
- fee waivers for college admissions exams (i.e. SAT/ACT/AP)
Itโs a quick process and only needs to be completed once for each household. By taking the time to fill out this form, you are taking part in a process that might provide thousands of dollars in funds to the school your student attends. You can also access this form when you are updating your Emergency Contact Information and Waiver Forms in your Parent Portal account.
If you need assistance in completing this form please contact your child's school office or the District Office (916) 645-6350 and we can help!
