Principal's Corner
Happy Halloween. Be safe tonight Gators.
This week I was impressed with our teacher team as they discussed our processes around writing K-5. I am always in awe of the expertise in our building and the care our teaching staff has for our student success. As a former middle school science teacher, I was reminded that we stress writing excellence in ALL content areas. Good writing is the key to good communication.
We’ve had a few hiccups with carpool pick up this past week as our basketball teams and Lion King rehearsals are beginning. Please make sure you and your child know the daily pick up time and plan for the day! With so much going on, the plan could change regularly for your family. Reach out to the activity sponsor or coach if you have any questions.
I want to thank the 38 Gator participants who represented our school at the LPS Stride last weekend. I understand our Kaye girls are literally running gazelles! After running in the State cross country meet Saturday, then running for a soccer game, they also ran in the LPS Stride and finished with amazing times. Mr Graeber said all our gators represented us well and the LPS Foundation was able to meet their fundraising goal. Our teachers have received grants from the LPS Foundation for their classroom every year for decades. These fun events help us all.
If you haven’t heard, we are holding a Gator Nation election on November 5th! You can review our ballot by reading our “blue book”. This Blue Book link is for grades 6-8 and has ALL the ballot questions in it. Our K-2 students are voting on question #1. Our 3-5 students are voting on question #1 and #2 and our Middle School students are voting on all three ballot questions. These questions are a result of student surveys to the principal last quarter. I felt we could also have a great civics lesson by learning about and voting on our options for change that matters to our students. Student polling booths will be open during lunch recess and voting is 100% voluntary but the outcomes will affect us all! Voting is an important part of citizenship and we are proud of our Gator Nation. We’ll share election results on November 6th.
Today Middle School students are getting special middle school only spirit shirts! They will be allowed to wear them with uniform bottoms next Wednesday. Only middle school students can wear their new spirit shirts that day. These spirit shirts were brought to life by our students and funded by both Student Council and LASA! They wanted every middle school student to get a shirt to show middle school student spirit!
