MHS STUDENT & FAMILY NEWSLETTER
Week of November 25 - November 29, 2024
RSU 57 & Massabesic High School
"Preparing students for success in an ever-changing world."
Hello Mustang Nation,
Protocol for Students Experiencing Illness While at School: Many may already know this, but it is always good to share a reminder that the MHS school procedure for students who are experiencing illness while at school requires that students are first assessed by our school nurse, Mrs. Kayla Pazmany-Kinney.
A special thank you to our international students Sofiya Frey (Ukraine), Ema Stankova (Slovakia), Joana Torres Reis (Brazil), and Anna Ceriani (Italy) for the wonderful presentations and cultural exhibitions they demonstrated for our students and staff this week as part of the world wide celebration of International Education Week. We are fortunate to have these four students with us at MHS this year, and we are appreciative of everything they have done to help our students and staff learn more about the world and culture contained therein.
Mustang Time: Thank you to students and staff for their efforts this week to better utilize our Mustang Time block. As a reminder - all students are expected to report to their Mustang Time teacher. If students need to meet with another teacher during that time they must secure a pass from that teacher PRIOR to the start of that Mustang Time block. This is important for safety and accountability purposes. Appropriate destinations for passes during Mustang Time are classrooms, the Main Office, the Guidance Office, the Nursing Office, the Library, or the Athletic Department Office.
Senior Pictures Deadline: The deadline for Senior Pictures for the Yearbook is fast approaching. Please see the information below in this newsletter - all Senior Pictures must be submitted to the Yearbook staff by Friday, December 20. Submissions can be sent to yearbook1@rsu57.org
As a reminder, our upcoming week will follow the Green/White color rotation schedule below:
Monday 11/25 - GREEN
Tuesday 11/26 - WHITE
Wednesday 11/20 - NO SCHOOL, the Main Office will be open until 2:00 pm
Thursday 11/21 - HAPPY THANKSGIVING - NO SCHOOL
Friday 11/22 - NO SCHOOL - the Main Office will be closed all day.
Giving Thanks: As we head into next week with two days of classes before the Thanksgiving Break it is important that I express my gratitude for our student population, parents/guardians/families, and our school community at large. I believe strongly in the commitment and dedication of our students and families. Not every day at MHS is perfect, and challenges exist that must be managed and navigated, but I am continually grateful for our school community and the way everyone perseveres and overcomes those challenges. This perseverance will give way to progress and success as we continue to apply our commitment and dedication to this end. Wishing all students and families a relaxing and Happy Thanksgiving.
Take care,
-Mr. Thurlow
Spirit of America Youth Leadership Conference 2024
MHS Sophomore Connor Remillard and MHS Junior, Walker Vivian, recently attended an all-expenses-paid trip to Valley Forge, PA to attend the 2024 Spirit of America Youth Leadership Conference. Connor and Walker wrote essays that advanced from regionals to win the "National Americanism Contest". The conference took place from November 7th to 10th and was sponsored by the AMVETS and the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary. (Sophomore Brielle Densmore also earned the opportunity to attend, but was unable to go this year as she had a previously scheduled commitment.) Connor attended the conference and spoke at the Founding Forward campus as part of the News Team (pictured), and Walker returned to the conference for his second year in a leadership role as a student ambassador (pictured here at Benjamin Franklin's gravesite).
