PCMS Weekly Update
September 27, 2024
Good Afternoon PCMS Families!
A HUGE THANK YOU to our parent volunteers and our PTO for helping sponsor our 6th-grade field trip to the Earnest Shepherd Memorial Youth Center in Liberty this past week! The weather was perfect and the kids had a fantastic time while developing leadership and communication skills and learning how to work together through the outdoor challenges - skills that we want our kiddos to develop and use as they continue to grow! I know our kids and teachers appreciated the experience and all of the help! Next week we turn the calendar to October already - itβs flying by!!
Enjoy the beautiful weekend everyone and GO PIRATES!!
Score of the Lost & Found: 20 after Week 6 π!! The number is growing! Please see if you recognize any of these items!
πͺ’ Check Out What We Did This Week!
Also a BIG THANK YOU to Mrs. Carver for all her hard work in organizing this great Field Trip!
And a HUGE THANK YOU to the PTO for helping fund the Field Trip!
π§ School Tip & Reminders
Remember that all students need to bring earbuds with them to their classes as this was an item listed on their school supplies. Many teachers give students individual video assignments so they can do them at their own pace. Without earbuds, it is difficult for many students to concentrate when doing an assignment with a video because so many are playing their video out loud. If they need to purchase earbuds, they can be purchased in the office for $1.
𧑠This Week's Character Dare
The CharacterDare is a heart workout, inviting students and adults to practice kindness, patience, and respect with themselves and others. These school-wide challenges encourage staff and students to put character into action, fostering personal growth and positively impacting school culture.
This Week's CharacterDare is: Deep Digging (see below).
We invite families to join us in these challenges and look forward to the positive impact they will have on everyone.

π― 6th Grade Parents and Parents of New Students - Become A Canvas Observer
This past week, 6th graders and students who are new to PCMS sent their parents an email about becoming a Canvas Observer. Our courses are housed in a singular learning management system called Canvas. In Canvas, the βObserverβ role is used for parents to allow them to see what is going on in their studentβs courses. Use the attached guide to set up your Canvas observer account using the student pairing code from each of your students. Once your student shares the code with you, it expires in 7 days. Click here to create an account and log into Canvas: platteco.instructure.com/login/canvas.
You can then set up your notification preferences or log into Canvas to see the Dashboard of what is happening in all your student's courses. Within Canvas, you can see assignment details, submissions, comments, and more. Official grades are then posted to PowerSchool. Contact the school if you have any questions.
Support Childhood Cancer Awareness Month: Wear Gold on September 30
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and our District is coming together to show support. On September 30, we encourage all students, staff, and community members to wear gold in honor of those impacted by childhood cancer. Many of our PCR-3 families have been affected by this disease, and by wearing gold, we stand in solidarity with them. Letβs raise awareness and show our support for these brave children and their families as we work towards a future without childhood cancer.

Each month our community focuses on a specific character trait and students are recognized for exhibiting these traits: Self Confidence, Pride, Responsibility, Citizenship, Compassion, Individuality, Self Control, Integrity, Perseverance, Respect, Honesty, and Cooperation.
