Wickliffe Updates
Unclaimed Lost and Found items will be donated after school on Friday, Jan. 31
Due to limited storage space, any unclaimed items will be donated on the last Friday of each month. Volunteers have organized the items on tables/racks in the office hallway allowing parents and students to easily check for missing belongings.
Please encourage your child to check for any lost items, or feel free to stop by the Lost & Found tables yourself during the week. To help us return items promptly, we highly recommend labeling your child’s belongings with their name.
Please note: any items lost during the week of January 27 - 31 will not be included in the donation.
From the Nurse's Office
With the cold and often wet weather conditions, we are seeing increased clinic visits for falls and changes of clothing and, as a result, have limited supplies of extra athletic pants and leggings. We encourage you to place an extra change of clothing and socks in your child's backpack in case they should happen to collide with a puddle or snow pile in the cold and wet days to come. If you find that your children have outgrown athletic pants and leggings, and you would like to send them our way, we would welcome a supply of these to have on hand for others for wetter days!

Welcome to Kindergarten, Golden Bears Class of 2038!
Upper Arlington Schools is excited to welcome the newest Golden Bears from the Class of 2038 next fall! The 2025-2026 kindergarten registration window will open on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. Upper Arlington Schools is proud to offer an all-day kindergarten program to the families of Upper Arlington — which supports the district’s mission to challenge and support every student, every step of the way, from day one of their educational journey.
You can find information about the registration process and the upcoming kindergarten information nights at our elementary schools on our website.
Wickliffe's Kindergarten Information Night is Tuesday, February 11 at 6:30 p.m.
Rare Disease Research and Presentation
February is Rare Disease Month. Rare disease day is observed on February 28th. To raise awareness, Katie Coplin (2/3 teacher at Wickliffe) and Elsa Bertch (Learning Center teacher at Wickliffe) are partnering with Allison Tomlin (health teacher at Hastings) to help students explore and understand rare diseases.
Mrs. Coplin's class will collaborate with an 8th-grade class to research various rare diseases. As part of this project, students will create informational flyers, stickers, and presentations to share their learning. These materials will be presented to the Wickliffe community during Town Meeting and distributed more broadly through the flyers.
This partnership provides students with an opportunity to engage in meaningful research, develop creative ways to educate others, and contribute to raising awareness about rare diseases within our community.
We want students to learn about the rare diseases that affect members of our Wickliffe community while also being mindful and respectful of everyone's privacy.
We invite any Wickliffe families currently living with a rare disease to complete this survey if you’d like to participate. Your input is valuable, and we appreciate your time in sharing your experience.
For more information about Rare Diseases check out NORD.
Middle School Information Nights for 5th Grade Families
You should receive an email from Hastings Middle School before January 24, 2025 with more information. If you have any questions ahead of the meeting, feel free to contact Assistant Principal, Megan Lippert (mlippert@uaschools.org).
School Counselors' Corner
Counseling Lesson Themes
Hi All! Welcome back! Below you will find the counseling lesson themes and parent information for each grade level! I will send home more information after each lesson but I know sometimes it can get lost in backpacks! As always please let me know if you need anything as we move through second semester!
K/1 Lesson- Conflict Resolution
In k/1 I will teach a skill called “A Bug and A Wish” to handle conflict appropriately. This is an easy framework for younger students to use that empowers them to tell someone else how their actions make them feel. This is how it goes:
“It bugs me when ________________. I wish you would __________________.”
Being able to handle conflicts calmly is such an important life skill!
2nd and 3rd grade lesson- Empathy
In ⅔ we will focus on Empathy. We will talk about what it means to understand what someone else is going through and practice showing we care in different situations!
4th and 5th Grade Lesson- Problem Solving
We will focus on how we can use the problem solving wheel or the peace path when we are having a problem with another person. We will role play different scenarios where the problem wheel or peace path can be used and how each person might solve conflict differently! See the wheel and the peace path below!

UACA Golden Apple Awards
The Upper Arlington Civic Association is excited to announce that the annual Golden Apple Award nominations for 2025 are here! This prestigious award can go to ANY faculty or staff in our schools. Your votes count! The winner of the Golden Apple at each school is decided by YOU! Any parent, student, colleague or community member can make a nomination. You can also nominate more than one person!
Visit www.UACA.org to fill out a nomination form between January 6 at 7:00 a.m. and February 28 at 11:59 p.m.
Progress Reports for students with IEPs
Unfortunately, the Progress Report icon for students with IEPs in PowerSchool has been eliminated. This was out of Upper Arlington’s control. In order to access your child’s progress report, your child’s intervention specialist or speech language pathologist will share the report via an email from Same Goal after each reporting period. You should receive the 2nd quarter progress report by January 21st for your student in grades Pk-5.
Visual and Performing Arts Gifted Identification Process
Parents, teachers or students can nominate students for Visual and Performing Arts assessments. This is a multi-step process where students will first be rated on their artistic talent by a teacher with knowledge of the student. Then, if that rating meets the screening criteria, your student will be invited to bring a portfolio of art or to audition outside of the district for trained arts instructors on 3/8/25 in New Albany. All of the information on this process is available here. The deadline to submit nominations is 2/10/25, though I would encourage you to complete the nomination process as soon as possible.
Coffee & Conversation events in January
Upper Arlington Schools has launched an expanded Coffee & Conversation series for the 2024-2025 school year. These coffee chats are an opportunity for the community to learn more about the Upper Arlington Schools and to ask questions.
Mark your calendars for the upcoming Coffee & Conversation events in January!
Monday, January 27 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Jones Middle School Learning Center, 2100 Arlington Avenue — This session will include general district updates. Please enter through the main entrance facing the Mallway Plaza.
Gifted Retesting Opportunity
Requests for testing for the purpose of qualifying students for gifted services in the 2025-2026 school year must be received by March 1, 2025.
Upper Arlington Schools will administer the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) and Iowa Assessment in March 2025 for students in grades 2-5 who are referred for gifted identification testing (gr. 3 & 5) or retesting (gr. 2 & 4).
If you would like to refer your child for the March 2025 CogAT and/or Iowa Assessment, please complete this Google Form by February 21, 2025. If you are unable to complete the form, please email Gifted Education Coordinator Shannon Gagel at sgagel@uaschools.org.
Two-hour Delay / Inclement Weather Reminders
When we experience inclement weather during the school week, we have two options. The first is closing school, which is known as a calamity day. The second is using a two-hour delay schedule. We haven’t used a delay in recent years, so here are some reminders:
As you might expect, our K-12 schools start two hours later than the normally scheduled times.
Burbank Early Childhood School’s tuition-based program would open at 11:00 a.m. The morning intervention program, including peers, would be canceled, and the afternoon intervention program would begin as scheduled at 12:45 p.m.
Morning sessions of School-Age Child Care (SACC) are canceled.
Students who use school transportation can expect their bus two hours later than the normal pick-up time.
Dismissal times remain as usually scheduled.
Please refer to the cancellations and delays information on our website for additional information.

Nurse Notes
Any prescription medication administered at school requires written authorization from the student’s physician as well as written parental permission. Per Ohio Revised Code, the Prescribed Medication must be received by the health office in the container in which it was dispensed by the provider or pharmacist (we cannot accept medication in baggies). Medication authorization forms and other health forms can be found on the district website at: UA Health Forms. Should you have any questions, please contact the Wickliffe Health Office at 614-487-5150.
Our health clinics track communicable illnesses and work with local public health agencies to mitigate potential outbreaks. If your student is diagnosed with or treated for a communicable illness/condition (strep, pinkeye, influenza, COVID-19, lice, etc.), please report those to the school nurse at wickliffehealthclinic@uaschools.org, or wickliffeattendance@uaschools.org. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure Wickliffe is a healthy learning environment for all of our students!
