Congratulations to J.O. Kelly Middle School EAST Facilitator Abigail Farrell, the September 2024 winner of Springdale Spotlight! Along with a prize pack, Mrs. Farrell will receive two tickets to see the Barret Baber Trio at the Walton Arts Center on Nov. 1.
The winning photo was taken during a macroinvertebrate identification exercise as part of the students' collaboration with the Illinois River Watershed Partnership. The students have been working together since 2018 to study local streams and to examine various aspects of their environment, including habitats, macroinvertebrates and land use changes. Before collecting data, the students received training in macroinvertebrate identification and field techniques. The students are currently studying a stream located near Silent Grove Road, close to Lake Springdale.

The October Springdale Spotlight winner will be announced on Oct. 23! The October Springdale Spotlight winner will also receive FOUR TICKETS to see Cirque du Soleil Songblazers at the Walton Art Center on Oct. 27.
