Welcome back Firebird Nation Families and Students:

It is hard to believe that the summer vacation is over. It feels like yesterday when all the students were leaving and wishing one another a great summer. I truly hope you have all had time to rest, relax, and spend time with friends/family.

With that, I was excited to see all our students and families! It was amazing during our check in days to see returning students who have grown tremendously and siblings of former students as well as to see all our new incoming Firebirds. As always, we shall RISE together and make our mark on the learning experiences and overall Firebird culture for our students and community. This year we have an amazing opportunity to partner together and leave a positive mark, creating a lasting legacy for each and every student at FMS! At FMS we are going to focus on what is best for our students to ensure we are creating the best possible educational experience and environment for all students. FMS wants to partner with parents and families as well as community guide our kids to ensure they have the skills to change this world's future for the better in a positive way!

Yesterday was our first day with 6th grade students. Thank you to Mrs. Ramirez and Mrs. Sinnott and all the WEB leaders for making it an amazing day. We appreciate all you do and will continue to do throughout the year to welcome, encourage, and ease the fears of our 6th grade students. They will continue to support students all year long. Thank you so much!

Today was our first day with all our students. It was so nice to see many returning faces as well as begin to get to know our new students. We also had our Firebird Welcome Back Assembly today at the end of the day. The excitement from students and staff for this new year was awesome.

A couple reminders for the beginning of the year. Please be aware of our parking lot. We want all students, parents, and staff to be safe. Therefore, please ONLY pick up and drop off students directly next to the curb. Please DO NOT let students out in the second lane from the curb. This will prevent students from running out in the middle of the parking lot and in between traffic. Please use the crosswalk when coming in and out of the building. Please pull forward when dropping and picking up students. Please also obey the bus lane and not drive or park in the bus lane. We appreciate you doing everything you can to keep our students, parents, and staff safe.

Please check to make sure you have access to PowerSchool and Schoology. These are amazing tools to keep track of your student’s progress throughout the year. If you need help with PowerSchool, please contact the front office. If you need help with Schoology, please reach out to your student’s teachers.

Included in every newsletter you will find upcoming events and information for the upcoming week and/or month. I am looking forward to an awesome 24-25 school year at Firebird Nation!

Volleyball

August 5, 6 & 7, 2024 from 3:15- 5:30 pm FMS gym (Main Campus)
Tryouts are based upon the following skills: Bump, Pass, Setting, Movement/Footwork & Coachable. All participants at Tryouts need to have a current physical & uploaded to RSchool on the school website. -- FMS Volleyball Website

Football

The first football practice will be on August 5 from 3:15pm to 5:15pm. Students will meet in the Boys Locker Room after school. Please ensure your student brings their cleats and is ready to work hard! -- FMS Football Website

Cross Country

The first cross country practice will be on August 5 from 3:15pm to 4:30pm. Students should get dressed in their designated locker rooms and meet at the FMS track. -- FMS Cross Country Website

*FMS Eligibility Guidelines Update*

Throughout the school year, we will review eligibility for sports, clubs, and other activities. To help your child make the most of these opportunities, remind them to finish and submit their weekly assignments by Monday at 3pm. Assignments after this might not be graded before the grade check. Teachers will update grades in PowerSchool.

The Heads Up Eligibility Check takes place every Friday. Students who are struggling in a course(s) will receive a notification from the Athletic Director regarding their current failing grade status. The Final Eligibility Check is on Tuesday at 10 am. If, unfortunately, your child is deemed ineligible, both the student and parents will receive an email notification from the Athletic Director detailing their ineligible status for the week. Please review the FMS Eligibility Rules below:

FMS Eligibility Guidelines

• Heads up Eligibility Check is every Friday at 10am and Final Eligibility Check is Tuesday at 10am.
• A student-athlete with 1 or more failing grade(s) (F) on Tuesday's Final Eligibility Check will be considered INELIGIBLE.
  
• INELIGIBLE time period starts on Tuesday and continues through the following Tuesday morning. IF athletes are not on the next week’s eligibility report, they will be reinstated.
• A student-athlete that is on the Weekly Ineligibility List may practice with the team, however will not be able to suit-up or dress-out for any competitions or events during the duration of the ineligibility period. Also, no student-athlete who is ineligible will travel with the team.
• If a student-athlete appears on the ineligibility list for a third time in a sports season, they become ineligible for the remainder of the sport’s season and must turn in equipment and uniforms to the coaches as soon as possible.
