Earthquake Safety
Earthquake Preparedness- https://www.earthquakecountry.org/sevensteps/
What to do during an earthquake:
If Possible
DROP where you are, onto your hands and knees.
- This position protects you from being knocked down by shaking and reduces your chance of being hit by falling or flying objects.
COVER your head and neck with one arm and hand.
- If a sturdy table or desk is nearby, crawl underneath for shelter
- If no shelter is nearby, crawl next to an interior wall
- Stay on your knees; bend over to protect vital organs
HOLD ON until the shaking stops.
- Under shelter: hold on to it with one hand; be ready to move with your shelter if it shifts
- No shelter: hold on to your head and neck with both arms and hands.
Or Adapt to Your Situation:
If you have difficulty getting onto the ground, or cannot get back up again without help, then follow these recommendations:
- If you are in a recliner or bed: Cover your head and neck with your arms or a pillow until the shaking stops.
- If you use a cane: Drop, Cover, and Hold On or sit on a chair, bed, etc. and cover your head and neck with both hands. Keep your cane near you so it can be used when the shaking stops.
- If you use a walker or wheelchair: LOCK your wheels (if applicable). If using a walker carefully get as low as possible. Bend over and COVER your head/neck with your arms, a book, or a pillow. Then HOLD ON until the shaking stops.

Halloween Event at Lin Howe Oct. 31, 2022
Halloween Parade 9:00
We will be holding our annual costume parade on Monday, October 31st, at 9 a.m. Students will walk a large loop around our playground. Students are invited to wear a costume, but if they choose not to, they will still be able to participate in the parade. Any student not wishing to wear a costume and not wishing to participate in the parade will have the opportunity to listen to a story in the library for a special story time. Parents are allowed on campus (Parent directions below).
Costume guidelines:
No Costume masks may be worn to and during school
No face make-up
Students must show respect for other students by not choosing costumes that are insensitive and/or offensive to the diverse background represented by La Ballona students and families.
Students must show respect to other students by not touching, defacing or insulting other students' costumes.
No weapons of any kind. (No fake guns, swords, knives, etc.)
No fake blood or other substances allowed.
Students will be allowed to wear wigs, hats and accessories during the parade, but must be removed if causing a distraction during class time.
After the parade, it will be a regular instructional day. Your child may stay in their costume IF the costume is easy to sit and learn in. If the costume impedes school learning, please bring a change of clothes for the school day.
Directions for Parents
Families are welcome to come to watch our parade on campus.
We will section off areas for parents to stand.
All parents may enter through the Back Gate 2.

SPOTLIGHT ON SPECIAL EDUCATION STAFF AT LIN HOWE-
Sarina Pulido
I grew up in Culver City and also attended Lin Howe, Middle and High school.
My husband and I are High school sweethearts and have been married for 29 years.
We have two beautiful daughters who have also attended Culver City schools and have already started their own families.
So that makes us very proud grandparents of four. Two girls and two boys. I love spending time with them. I worked for Culver City for over 23 years. I love what I do and wouldn't change a thing! Knowing that I went and now work at Lin Howe makes it even more special
Adda Rodriguez
Hi, my name is Adda Rodriguez and I am a Behavior Intervention Instructional Assistant. I started working at Lin Howe back in January of this year. I graduated from UC Riverside with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelors of Science in Sociology. I have worked with a wide range of age groups, from Kinder to High School with a variety of disabilities, both in the school and home setting. On my free time I love buying new sneakers, trying new restaurants and eating spicy food. I also take care of my mother who has Alzheimer’s. So I know a thing or two about caring for others and having PATIENCE!

The Dragon Wagon is Back!
The Dragon Wagon is Back! Get Ready!
The Dragon Wagon is Lin Howe’s Walking School Bus. Our goal is to promote walking to school—which is great exercise, reduces traffic, and is better for our environment!
We meet at 8:10 in Carlson Park or at 8:20 at Ince/Carson and we’ll walk to school together! You can even join us along our route. Parents/Grandparents are strongly encouraged to join. Please leave your bikes, scooters and dogs at home for this activity. If your child is 1st grade or younger, a parent or guardian must join them on the walk.
Please fill out this permission slip to join: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd5VT7mmi7Oinw3oBDq7Zvt3Cdj0FL7QpAvDWsk1k1EAoou2w/viewform?usp=sf_link

Walktober & Pedestrian Safety Month
- October is Walktober AND Pedestrian Safety month, so it's a great time to encourage more walking and host a pedestrian safety activity at your school. We can help support with either the Traffic Safety City in your auditorium or presenting grade-appropriate assemblies. Please let me know when we can schedule at your school (Lin Howe is this Friday if anyone wants to take a peek at what the City looks like or send a PE teacher for a refresher)
- Please refer to our Safety First Page for tips and talking points to share with your families. Key of course, is crossing at corners, looking 4 ways, Always and when possible, taking the 3 Block Challenge to reduce the number of cars coming to/from school.
- If you'd like, you may share out our 4 Ways, Always video
