Hello Phenix Firebirds!
News from the Nest for April 2025
April!
Dear Firebird Families,
Spring has officially sprung, and with it comes a renewed energy and excitement throughout our school! April is a month full of growth, learning, and celebration. From hands-on classroom projects to outdoor activities that take advantage of the beautiful weather, our students are thriving both academically and socially. Our SOL testing season is rapidly approaching. The schedule will be sent home on April 16th and is currently available on our school website calendar.
As we enter the final stretch of the school year, I’m incredibly proud of the progress we’ve made together and grateful for the continued support of our amazing families and staff. Let’s make this month one to remember!
Warm regards,
Daniel T. Richardson
Principal, Phenix Elementary

School Nurse Tidbits
Have you ever had a runny nose, itchy eyes, or lots of sneezing in the spring or fall? That might be because of seasonal allergies!
What Causes Them?
When plants like trees, flowers, and grass grow, they release tiny things called pollen into the air. Some people's bodies don’t like pollen, so their immune system tries to fight it off—like a superhero! But instead of superpowers, their body reacts with sneezing, stuffy noses, and watery eyes.
When Do They Happen?
- Spring: Trees and flowers release pollen.
- Summer: Grass pollen is everywhere!
- Fall: Weeds like ragweed cause allergies.
- Winter: Most pollen is gone, but dust and mold can still make allergies worse.
How Can You Feel Better?
- Stay inside when it's very windy (that’s when pollen flies around the most).
- Wash your hands and face after playing outside.
- Keep windows closed to stop pollen from getting in.
- Ask an adult if allergy medicine can help.
Even though allergies can be annoying, they won’t last forever! With some simple steps, you can still have fun in every season.
Counselor's Corner
April's focus is Cooperation. One way to think about Cooperation is “working together to reach shared goals.” As a family, talk about how this definition applies to how you work together at home. What are some goals you share?
Cooperation is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Kind. Across grade levels, students will be developing skills like perspective-taking, conflict resolution, and leadership.

Monthly Inspiration
April Rain Song
Let the rain kiss you
Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops
Let the rain sing you a lullaby
The rain makes still pools on the sidewalk
The rain makes running pools in the gutter
The rain plays a little sleep song on our roof at night
And I love the rain.
