Updated Information May 2023
Updated May 1, 2023
By the end of the month or beginning of June we should be getting our scores for the ACCESS test the ELL students took in January/February. The score sheet will be sent home once we receive them.
MCAS
Any ELL in 3-5 grades who has been enrolled in US schools for over one calendar year will be taking the MCAS test starting in April. This is an academic test for reading and math. The classroom teachers will be working with these students to help prepare them.
The newest learners of English are continuing to work on social, communicative words and phrases. I am going to attach my daily slides here. Please feel free to practice with your English learners. We continue to work on simple commands along with school tool vocabulary, pronouns (He, She, It, They, We, I) and repetitive reading and writing activities (I have a pencil. I have a marker. Etc.) We are in our food/color unit. We are learning food vocabulary words and color associated with foods.
1st grade: We just moved into the non-fiction/informational writing unit. The students are writing about topics they are "experts" on. I have been supporting with graphic organizers, sentence frames, visuals and word banks. During phonics I am supporting the Fundations and Heggerty Programs.
3rd grade: During my push in time I am helping students with their math. The students just started the unit on measuring and love it!
ESL Information
I am so excited to be working with grades 1 and 3 this year!
Newcomer students (with WIDA levels 1-2) will be pulled out to receive targeted, small group English instruction. We will be following the Framingham Public Schools Curriculum and Instruction Framework. We will learn basic English greetings, introductions, school vocabulary, color vocabulary, asking and answering questions and more! We will have Google Slides presentations daily as well as interactive and hands on activities. Of course, I always incorporate music and art to engage the students.
Our intermediate students (WIDA levels 3-5) will receive a mix of small group and push in instruction. Many of these students can access in class instruction with the proper ESL supports and accommodations. I will work closely with classroom teachers to ensure these students are accessing their in class curriculum in an equitable and appropriate manner.
