The Wolfpack Edge

Greetings
By mid-February, Christmas break feels like a distant memory, and spring break is still weeks away. This time of year can feel like a long stretch toward spring, but next week brings some excitement with President’s Day and FFA Week! FFA Week is filled with fun activities, including daily Ag Trivia, a "Find the Pig" challenge, and themed dress-up days. Highlights include Wednesday’s Career Fair, Ag Olympics and FFA Chapel on Thursday, and the much-anticipated "Kiss the Pig" fundraiser, supporting Lisa VanOtterloo and Levi VanRavenswaay. It’s sure to be a great week celebrating agriculture and community!
Mr. Brian Verwolf
Head Administrator
The Wolfpack Edge serves as a weekly communication to our parent community. We'll send it to your inbox each Thursday during the school year. If you would like the newsletter to be sent to an additional account, let us know! Grandparents & supporters may request to receive the communication, too. Please email Mrs. Kathy Mouw with contact information: Kathy.Mouw@westernchristianhs.com
We were hoping to welcome one of our very own students to share a message, until we had to cancel due to the 2-hour late start. Hailey Ammons, WCHS sophomore, delivered her first chapel speech last year, and she expressed a willingness to do that again this year. When we reschedule this chapel, our Faithpacks will meet before chapel to brainstorm key ideas and topics from Hailey’s message: Who do we trust and why do we have difficulty giving God all of our trust? Andrew and our worship team will lead us musically, and the chapel hour will close with a couple student-managers of our coffee shop, Solid Grounds, sharing some information about a fundraiser sponsored by our coffee shop.
Please consider joining us for chapel by subscribing to Western Christian High School Livestreams on YouTube.

Support Services
PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
This week for professional learning, we reviewed our technology integration plans. We spent time in departments discussing technology integration, and we worked on putting it into our maps to better track across the curriculum.
SCHOLARSHIP REMINDER
Seniors who have received mailings from NSHSS should be cautious. There is a membership fee for the service, which will provide student contact information to organizations that offer scholarships. There are many local and free scholarships available and I would recommend sticking with those resources and not pay for any memberships or other fees. We have a spreadsheet with these local and free scholarships that we have created and shared with students to whom they have access.
STUDENT SUPPORT
At Western Christian High School, we recognize our students’ unique creation and the variety of God-given talents and skills. We know that each student presents a unique combination of such strengths. We believe it is our responsibility to meet students where they are at in their journey and equip them with the tools and resources required to exceed their potential. To meet the need, we have a Student Support Team with a variety of resources. Go here to learn more about who to connect with!

Let's Talk Risk
In recent years, gambling among high school students has become an increasing concern, particularly with the rise of sports betting and poker. With easy access to online platforms and peer influence, more teenagers are engaging in betting activities, often without fully understanding the risks involved.
This resource emphasizes the risks associated with early exposure to gambling, noting that children introduced to "harmless betting" by age 12 are four times more likely to develop problem gambling behaviors later in life. It highlights the importance of parental awareness and proactive conversations about the dangers of gambling.
Non-Discrimination Policy
Western Christian High School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, or national or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship and loan programs (if any exist), and athletic or other school administered programs.
