April 2019 - School Library Month

Reading Day - April 17th

Wednesday, April 17th is the half day before Easter break. We will be celebrating School Library Month, by having a reading day in the library.

Teachers may sign up classes to visit the library or check with your teacher if you can sign up to visit on your own. The Library Resource Tile has more information and a link to sign up.

I will have books, short stories, poetry (it is also National Poetry Month), comics/graphic novels/manga, and magazines out to read. The hope is that you will enjoy the quiet and slower pace to read something of your choice.

New Castle County Reads

We are excited to announce that the 2019 NCC Reads title is Mudbound, by Hillary Jordan. Mark your calendars now for an evening with the author on Wednesday, April 10, at 7:00 pm at the Chase Center on the Riverfront.

The 2008 novel was the winner of the Bellwether Prize for fiction and the American Library Association’s Alex Award. With its exceptional writing, this compelling read focuses on two Mississippi Delta families, one black and one white, whose lives intersect in the post-World War II Jim Crow era.

The county has given us 20 copies. They are available in the library.

To get the most from this book you should read the Shadow and Bone trilogy and the Six of Crows duology first.

Mats for the Homeless

Our library service project has created 5 mats for the homeless. Service hours are still available to help with the project. We need people to make plarn (plastic yarn) and we are always looking for people to knit or crochet. Perhaps you would like to learn and work on a project over Easter break. See M.
