Dear Winthrop Families,
We are so glad that the rain held off this morning so we could participate in the Massachusetts Walk to School Day! Thank you to all the families that walked, biked, and rolled to school with us! A special thanks to Mrs. Amisson, Mrs. Nylen, Mrs. Patten, Mrs. Mitchell, Mrs. Norris, and Mrs. Quinn for getting their steps in and leading our students to school. Thank you to Mr. Fahey for leading a group of bikers from Town Wharf! And. Thank you to Maggie Kirk and Jessica Holmes for setting up a FRIES table with fresh fruit and flavored water upon everyone's arrival at school. Please enjoy the pictures below from this morning's event.
I have many important announcements to share with you this week!

Grade 4 Concert Tonight!
Good luck to all our 4th graders who will perform in their Band, Orchestra, and Chorus Concert tonight at 7:00 PM. Please have students arrive by 6:45 for the performance. Thank you to Miss Fab, Mrs. Scarano, and Mr. Freemont-Smith for all their guidance and preparation for tonight's festivities. I am sorry to miss tonight's events as I will be attending my High School Senior daughter's award ceremony this evening. Mrs. Amisson is excited to welcome fourth-grade families tonight.
Come Join Winthrop FRIES!
There will be three positions opening up on the Winthrop FRIES board next year - Chair, Budgets, and Events. Winthrop FRIES is our Winthrop School PTO - the organization brings special programs like yoga and dance into our classrooms, supports staff requests for funding, funds the improvements of our school's outdoor play spaces, supports our Green Team initiatives, and more.
The great thing about FRIES is that you can get involved in whatever capacity works for you and your family - whether it's posting on social media, updating the website, tracking the budget, coordinating events - the opportunities are endless! For more information on how to get involved and help keep FRIES initiatives alive, you are encouraged to email winthropschoolfries@gmail.com and a member will be in touch.
Author Visit!
We are very excited for our upcoming author visit with Raúl the Third on Monday, May 20th. If you would like to have a book signed by Raúl, send one in with your student on the day of the event. They will be collected from classrooms and delivered back to students in the afternoon. For a list of his available books, see his website.

Children in grades 3-5 are invited to register for a special one-time book club on Thursday, June 6 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. (just before the town's D-Day Parade) to learn about D-Day by reading I Survived the Battle of D-Day, 1944 from the popular "I Survived" series.
