Maple Ridge Updates
January 7th, 2025
Dear Maple Ridge Families,
I hope you had a great couple of weeks with your loved ones. We are so excited to have everyone back in the building! Before the break students completed the Middle of Year Acadience Benchmark Tests. Reading Acadience Tests are given to all students, while the Math Acadience Tests are given to students in Kindergarten through Third Grade. These tests are screeners to see where students are performing at three points throughout the school year. To view your student's results click here.
We are deeply committed to helping each child succeed at every level. We use these assessment results to identify where each student is achieving proficiency in important skills, what growth they are making, and where each student may need additional support. If you have any questions regarding your student's testing please reach out to their teacher.
Thank you for your generous donations to our Penny Wars and canned food drive. Our Student Council was able to go deliver the food and check before Christmas!
Our teachers have been receiving Professional Development on student engagement. Research shows that one of the biggest factors of student engagement is students being at school on time. We would love your help with this! When students aren't at school, it is difficult to make up the same level of rigor and instruction that the rest of their peers are receiving. Teachers are using researched based and sequential curriculums to teach students each day. When a student misses school, they are missing an opportunity to learn something they will need in order to understand more difficult information later. A quick Google search shows that missing two days a month (or even a half day each week) equates to about 20 absences during a school year. In the course of a child's elementary school education, that is over half a year of instruction that is lost for that student.
We understand that some absences are unavoidable. But, if there is a reason that your child is missing school and it is something that we can help with, please inform your student's teacher. We would love to help your child be to school on time, for the whole day, every day.
Please be considerate and safety conscious as you drop off and pick up students at school. The winter months see an increase in the number of cars. Remember to help with the flow of traffic by using the outside pick up lane for pull through only, keeping the crosswalk area clear. Please use the parking stalls if you need to leave your vehicle or enter the building. Also, please remind your children to use the crosswalk. Safety is our number one priority!
In the event of a major weather event (severe storm, power outage, snow day, late start, etc.) Nebo School District's notification system will be used to notify you in the form of an automated phone call, text, or email. For this information to reach you, it is important that you keep your contact information current within the Infinite Campus system. Information will also be posted and updated on the Nebo School District website at www.nebo.edu.
I hope you have a fantastic 2025!
Ms. Sharp

Counselor Corner
Our amazing counselor has a monthly newsletter she posts on our school website with lessons and resources. This month we are continuing to learn about and work on being resilient. Students are learning how they can bounce back from challenging situations. Here is the link to see what she has posted for January!
District News
Nebo District is offering a mental health screener for students on the evening of January 13, 2025, at Mt. Nebo Middle School from 4 pm to 8 pm. We will be using Terrace Metrics software to measure mental and emotional strengths, as well as screen for anxiety, depression, trauma, and suicidal ideation of students in grades 6-12. Students in grades 3-5 may participate to be screened for mental and emotional strengths, anxiety, depression, and trauma.
If you would like to participate please sign up here for an appointment. The assessment tool takes an average of 15 minutes to complete. Afterward, you and your student will meet with a school counselor or social worker to discuss the results of the assessment and receive resources as needed.
Link to Parent Information Video (2.5 minutes)
Prior to taking the mental health screener, a consent form needs to be completed by the parent/guardian. The consent form will be available upon arrival. If you have any questions, please contact your school counselor.
Sincerely,
RaShel Shepherd, Ed.D.
