Mustang Minute
Week of August 5, 2024
Welcome to the Mustang Minute!
As fellow parents of Mill Street Students, Home & School encourages and facilitates a cooperative partnership among our students, parents/guardians, and school staff and administration. H&S is our school’s version of a PTO or PTA, and our goal is to support and enhance the school experience of each student. There are no dues--just an open invitation to stay informed and get involved at whatever level you can. We look forward to and appreciate your involvement!
Please email us at millstreeths@gmail.com with any questions, ideas or concerns!

Carpool Rules & Reminders
There are four things we ask of all parents while they are in the carpool line to drop off/pick up their children:
- Please have signage with your child’s/children’s name(s) and grades visible in your windshield at pickup. This will greatly assist the staff working outside to identify your child in the crowd and help move the line along at a faster pace.
- Please do not use cell phones while in the carpool line. Cell phone use in the carpool line is prohibited per Illinois State Law.
- Please do not turn left onto Mill Street. Left turns are prohibited during peak traffic times. There is signage stating this. Please be respectful of your fellow Mill St. families and do not turn left after dropping off or picking up your child.
- At no time may students be dropped off on Mill Street.
Morning Arrival: Car Riders
- Parents may enter the parent drop off lane no earlier than 7:50 and must pull forward to door 6.
- Students may not exit their vehicles until 8:00 a.m. when staff are present and begin their active supervision.
- Please make sure your child has all their belongings ready to exit your vehicle quickly from the passenger side.
- Parents may not exit their vehicles while in the carpool lane.
- Children must be independent in managing carseat/seatbelts and materials. Staff will be available to help students as needed.
- Families who arrive after 8:15 must park and escort their children into the office and must sign them in.
Afternoon Dismissal: Car Riders
- Parents may not enter the pick up lane prior to 2:15 and at that time must pull forward to door 6.
- Parents must post a sign in their windshield listing students names and grades.
- Vehicles must continually pull forward and students will come to the vehicle from their position on the sidewalk.
- Staff will assist students in finding and entering their vehicles.
- Parents who arrive past 2:45 must park and retrieve their students from the main office. Parents who are habitually late will be required to meet with building administrators to address the issue
- Parents may not exit their vehicles while in the carpool lane.
Walker Procedures
- Please reference the Mill Street Safe Walking Route
- Students who walk home will exit from door 5. It is recommended that parents or guardians meet students and escort them home safely.
- If you have driven to meet your walker student, please park in the St. Timothy's parking lot across the street, and use the crosswalk to walk across Mill St. and pickup your student.
- Students may not remain on school grounds or the playground immediately after school, but must first go home and then may return after school hours.
- Students in grades 3-5 may ride their bikes to and from school. Bikes must be locked in the provided bike racks and walked on school grounds.
- Students in grades K-2 may ride bikes to and from school only if accompanied by an adult.
Pets
Pets are not allowed on school grounds when students are present and/or during arrival and dismissal times.
School Reminders:
- Late students in the morning: Parents, please walk your student into the building and sign them in. A parent is required to sign their student in at the main office with a time and signature. Do not drop your student off and have them walk in alone without a parent. Students are expected to be in their classroom at 8:10 am, with instructional learning beginning promptly at 8:15 am. Thank you.
- If your student is being picked up for an appointment or leaving school early for the day, please email their teacher and notify them of the pick-up time and whether your student will or will not be returning to school that day. It is important that the teacher knows the student's schedule so they can plan accordingly. Please bring an ID with you if you're signing a student out early or leaving for an appointment. Thank you.
- If your student is sick or will be absent, please report the absence via Infinite Campus or call the health office at (630) 420-6355 and speak to Mrs. Robinson. You may leave a voicemail if calling outside of school hours.
- Label your student's belongings: Please label your student's items such as jackets, lunch boxes, water bottles, etc. If your item is labeled correctly, we can return it to your student properly. Students can check for missing items at the lost & found table located near the gym & multipurpose room (MPR).
Reporting a Student Absence
