Message from Principal Collins
Hello, Evergreen Families,
Last week, our 6th graders had the opportunity to go to a performance at the Federal Way Performance Arts and Event Center. They got to see a performance called Dr. Kaboom. They had a lot of fun learning about science. This week, our incoming 5th graders came to our parent night. It was exciting to see all of our new Grizzly families. Our sports season has begun we invite everyone to come and cheer on our Grizzly Athletes. Just a reminder. Scholars have to leave campus at 2:30 and cannot return to campus until the sporting events start. The start time for games or matches is 3:50 pm.
Student-led Led Conferences will be held at the end of the month. Please make sure to sign up to visit your child’s teachers.
We are going strong into our 2nd semester it’s a great time for students to reset and refocus. One way to support them is by encouraging short-term goals—small, achievable targets that build motivation and momentum.
Examples of effective short-term goals:
- Participate in class at least once a day.
- Study for 30 minutes daily before a quiz.
- Review notes for 20 minutes each evening.
The Power of Rewards
Recognizing progress helps students stay engaged and avoid burnout.
Simple rewards:
- A short break or walk.
- A favorite snack or song.
- Time for a hobby.
Bigger rewards for bigger goals:
- A night out with friends.
- A fun treat or experience.
- A day off from homework.
Students can build strong habits and stay on track by setting goals and celebrating progress. Thank you for your partnership in supporting their success!
Illness Reminder: We need your help to reduce the spread of germs! By working together and taking precautions, we can help to minimize the impact of any illness that can be spread to others. Please be reminded of the following:
- Wash hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds;
- Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands;
- Avoid kissing, hugging, and sharing cups or eating utensils with people who are sick;
- Disinfect frequently touched surfaces, such as toys and doorknobs, especially if someone is sick;
- Stay home when feeling sick, and obtain consultation from your health care provider. Keep sick children at home for at least 24 hours after they no longer have vomiting or diarrhea. Ill children should stay home until 24 hours after they are fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medicines.
- Cover your cough/sneeze. It is best to cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve or elbow, not your hands. If you cough/sneeze in your hands or in a tissue, make sure you wash your hands afterward.
- These everyday steps are a good way to reduce your chances of getting the flu. However, a yearly flu vaccine is the best protection against the flu.
Over the past few months, we have seen incredible growth and success in our students. From their academic achievements to their participation in extracurricular activities, we are so proud of the hard work and determination they demonstrate every day. As we continue through the school year, we remain committed to creating a positive and supportive environment where all learners can thrive. Our dedicated staff works tirelessly to inspire and challenge students while providing them with the tools they need for success.
We know that a strong partnership between home and school is key to every student's success. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions, concerns, or suggestions you may have. Your input is valuable, and we are here to support both you and your child.
Thank you for your continued trust and partnership. Together, we can make this a year filled with growth, learning, and positive change.
Thank you for being a part of the Grizzly family.

Thrive Counseling
Exciting news! Evergreen Middle School is the first school in Federal Way that has partnered with Thrive Counseling, a local clinical counseling office. This partnership will be for students with Private Insurance, including Regence, United Health Care, Aetna, Kaiser, Premera, Cigna, and First Choice Health. We will start having a district-approved provider here on campus once a week and this provider is looking to build their caseload for Evergreen. If you have a student interested in Clinical Counseling and you have Private Insurance (listed above) please contact our school counselor Mrs. Kephart 253-945-5133 to get a referral sent to Thrive.
**Families with State Insurance, we are partnered with 2 other providers, they have limited space currently, but if you are interested in Clinical Counseling Options you can contact Mrs. Kephart as well.
Reminder: Evergreen does not allow outside food/drinks to be delivered to students. You are welcome to bring food for your child to eat lunch with you or they can eat it in the office.
This also means no morning food & drinks. They will need to be consumed before school starts in the office. If not, they will be left in the office until the end of the day.
*** All students have free breakfast and lunch.
