Indoor Track Championship
Evie Mathis is a Junior at Wayland Union High School. She competed at the Michigan Indoor Track Championship held at Central Michigan University on Saturday, March 8th. Evie competed against top athletes from across the state in the Pole Vault, winning State Runner-Up with a vault of 12'6"! Evie is looking forward to the beginning of Outdoor Track Season as part of the Wayland Union Varsity Track Team. Congratulations, Evie!
Coding with Mr. Mattis
First graders at Dorr Elementary were visited by Mr. Mattis earlier this week to participate in a coding lesson.
Maps of Michigan
Third graders at Steeby Elementary had a hands-on learning experience where they colored a large map of Michigan, including the Great Lakes, surrounding states, and Canada. As they worked, students labeled key landmarks, cities, and regions, which deepened their understanding of Michigan’s geography. This engaging project not only reinforces their learning but also serves as a treasured keepsake!
Kids Heart Challenge
Dorr Elementary wrapped up their Kids Heart Challenge with a total of $15,442.95 raised. All students who raised $160 or more were invited to a Subway party! Afterwards, the students participated in a jump rope competition and played the Floor is Lava! Lots of creative and fun ways to get across the lava!
Pi Day
Ms. VanderGeld’s class celebrated Pi Day a day early! On Thursday, March 13th, students were taught what pi means in mathematics. They learned how to find the radius, diameter, and circumference of circular objects. They explored the classroom to find different objects to measure and finished the lesson off with a delicious slice of pie. Happy 3.14!
FAFSA Madness Week 2
And the week two senior winner for the FAFSA Madness raffle is...... Katie Harter! She gets to take home a Vizio TV! Next week's grand prize is Beats headphones. As a reminder, all seniors need to do to enter the drawing is show a confirmation email of their FAFSA completion to Mrs. Mulder in the Guidance Office by next Wednesday, March 19th!
Peter Ruppert Thanksgiving in Action Award
Congratulations to Nicki Cardosa and Coach Tim Gibson, along with student council, staff, and students involved in the Folds Of Honor fundraiser this fall at the high school.
Through their outstanding efforts, Wayland Union High School is being recognized for gracious support of Veterans and the Armed forces by receiving this year's Peter Ruppert Thanksgiving in Action Award.
Members from the Armed Forces Thanksgiving were on campus to interview Coach Cardosa, Coach Gibson, Mr. Di Cesare, as well as a few student council members. They discussed how the fundraiser made an impact on school culture and community outreach to serve our veterans.
NHS Students Visit Elementary Classrooms
This week, NHS students visited Ms. Moore's first grade classroom at Dorr Elementary to read a few stories. So much fun for everyone involved!
"Freaky Tiki"
Wayland Union Middle School Drama presents "Freaky Tiki" tonight at 7pm!
This comedy is set in Hawaii's finest 2.5 star resort where attempts to save the resort from going under are thwarted by a "cursed" tiki statue. Throw in a lobster on the loose and hilarious misunderstandings, this play will make all ages giggle.
Tickets are $6 and can be purchased early at wufactickets.ludus.com (skip the line at the door and order ahead of time) or with cash/card at the door. We hope to see you there!
