Unity Week
Armstrong students kicked off Unity Week by taking a pledge against bullying during their lunches. Our 6th grade learned about Respectful Citizenship, and our 7th and 8th grade learned about Internet Safety with the support of our guidance team and NOVA. Students also created a Unity Chain to symbolize how we are all connected. On Wednesday, Armstrong wore orange to demonstrate our commitment to end bullying.
Red Ribbon Week
Students celebrated Red Ribbon Week by signing petitions at lunch to commit to living a drug and violence free lifestyle. Students and staff also wore red, tye-dye, and their favorite sports team jersey to show their support.
Student of the Month Breakfast
Congratulations to our students who were selected as our Students of the Month for September. Students are selected by teachers based upon the positive impact they have had in one way or another at Armstrong Middle School.

Student Spotlight
Student Spotlight: Tiger Tech Class
Students in Mr. Marlow and Ms. Fox's Tiger Tech class have been using their creativity to design and produce 3D printed and laser engraved items. These innovative creations were sold at the Halloween dance at Armstrong, providing hands-on experience in entrepreneurship. Several students volunteered to manage the sales, which raised over $100 for future supplies. Currently, the students are working on a new logo design for the shop. We look forward to seeing their next creations at the Winter Choir Concert and Truman Band Breakfasts.

Picture Make-Up Day - November 12, 2024
Dear Armstrong families,
Our picture retake/make-up day is Tuesday, November 12th.
Barksdale Photo requested that we share this important information regarding picture retakes. Please use the link to place your order ahead of time. Our order code for online purchases is 11703AR.
Here is an overall review of what to expect.
- Any student wishing to have a retake should bring their original picture package to exchange for the retake image.
- When an order is placed online, the parent/guardian will receive a camera pass via email. This can either be printed or texted to the student and brought to picture day. The photographer will photograph the printed camera pass along with the student.
- If a student is not able to print their camera pass, that is not a problem. We will match up the student to their order manually in the production process.
- A parent may order from the flyer up until 24 hours after picture day. After 24 hours, the online ordering access may close. This will allow our imaging team to "Pull" all orders submitted and match them with the students photographed.
- 5. When pictures are returned to school, all students that purchased pictures will receive their prepaid package. Any student that was photographed but did not order a package, will receive a "Proof" (PX) of their picture that was taken on picture day.
All proof packages offer parents a second opportunity to order prints. All orders are subject to shipping and handling costs of up to $8.50 and will be shipped directly to home.
Please see the attached flyer! Visit www.barkdalephoto.com for questions regarding picture retake/make-up day.
Thank you.

Attendance
Why does attendance matter?
- No factor has a more direct relationship to a student’s success in school than a good attendance record.
- Regular attendance is necessary for students to learn. Students build upon previous information to provide understanding, and to develop skills in all areas of their education.
- Daily attendance contributes to the student’s development in learning responsibility, self discipline, relationship building, and good work habits.
- Good attendance allows students to gain maximum benefit from their education and reach their highest potential. They can graduate and be prepared for their next step in life.
Showing up matters for R.E.A.L because it is an opportunity to:
Build Routines
Increase Engagement
Provide Access to resources
Support Learning
What should I do if my child is absent?
- Bring in a signed excuse on the day of return to school or use our new email for all attendance and early dismissal notes. armstrong.attendance@bristoltwpsd.org
- Be aware of the obligation to make up work missed.
- Be aware of the school’s attendance policy and the consequences for noncompliance.
How can parents help?
- Create a morning routine to ensure students attend school regularly.
- Adopt age-appropriate expectations such as using an alarm and prepping clothes and materials for the next day.
- Check in with your student regularly on their grades and progress.
- Check infinite campus monthly to monitor progress and attendance.
Armstrong MTSS - Tier 1 Updates
iReady Diagnostic
Armstrong students have completed their iReady assessments in reading and math. The iReady diagnostic assists in identifying our students' instructional needs, which drives our instruction.
Panorama Survey
Students took a short survey about their learning environments, school supports, skills for success, and well-being. This survey allowed students to voice their perspectives, share their experiences, and describe how they feel supported through their relationships with others. A team of dedicated teacher leaders will analyze the results and use students' information to build pathways to positive experiences at Armstrong.
Report Cards
Report cards will be available on iCampus on November 22nd.
This is an opportunity to provide support, encouragement, and guidance. Here are some steps you can take to make the most of the report card review:
1. Review the Report Card Together
- Sit down with your child in a calm, distraction-free environment.
- Go through each subject and area of feedback. Use this time to understand their strengths and areas for improvement.
2. Keep a Positive Tone
- Regardless of the grades, approach the conversation with encouragement and positivity.
- Acknowledge their efforts and progress, even in areas where the grades might be lower than expected.
- Praise the subjects where they have improved or excelled to reinforce their confidence.
3. Ask Open-Ended Questions
- Instead of making statements, ask questions like:
- "How do you feel about your grades this marking period?"
- "Which subjects did you enjoy the most?"
- "Was there anything you found challenging?"
- Open questions give them a chance to share their experiences and concerns openly.
4. Focus on Growth, Not Just Grades
- Help them see that grades are not the only measure of success—learning progress, effort, and skill-building are essential.
- Encourage a growth mindset by focusing on what they can work on or improve for the next term.
5. Set Goals Together
- Help your child set realistic goals for the marking period.
- Examples: Spend more time on math or reading daily. Focus on organization or managing study time. Go to school daily to avoid missed assignments.
6. Discuss and Implement a Plan of Action
- If there are areas of difficulty, talk about ways to improve, such as changing study routines.
- Let your child be part of the planning, giving them some control over their own learning strategies.
7. Stay in Touch with the Teacher (if necessary)
- If there are significant concerns, reach out to their teachers to understand any challenges and to get suggestions for how to support your child.
8. Reassure and Celebrate Progress
- Let them know you’re proud of their hard work, regardless of their grades.
- Celebrate the small wins and their commitment to growth, reinforcing that learning is a journey and grades are just one part of it.
