Week of October 27, 2024
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Dear EHTHS families,
I can’t believe it is already November. The past two months have gone by in the blink of an eye. Here is a snapshot of all of the events and accomplishments that have happened in the past week.
Last Friday’s Pep Rally was a hit! Congratulations to the Class of 2025 for winning the most games and earning 400 points toward the Battle of the Classes. That night, we also crowned Josh Hackett and Karen Batista-Rosario as our Homecoming King and Queen.
Congratulations to our JROTC program on the success of the first annual Classic Car Show! This event showcased the impressive hard work and dedication of our JROTC program and highlighted the teamwork and professionalism of our cadets and instructors. The feedback from attendees was outstanding. The organization, welcoming atmosphere, and attention to detail made the event memorable for everyone. Thank you to everyone involved for fostering community spirit and school pride.
Our Unified athletes had a fantastic day on Tuesday as they traveled to Cape May County Special Services and won their soccer game with a close 3-2 score. We are so proud of our athletes and student buddies who support and encourage each other on the field.
Our Noche Latina event was a tremendous success, with over 70 attendees coming together for a meal and community-building. We enjoyed a traditional Colombian dance performance by our Hispanohablantes students and a conference for parents led by Dr. Diaz-Claisse, founder and CEO of HISPA, on “The Power of Education: Overcoming Challenges, Achieving Success.” A big thank you to the teachers, the EHT Education Association, the EHT School District Administration, Dr. Schreiner, Ms. Florido, Ms. Dilks, our IT department, and custodial staff for their support in making this event so impactful.
Thank you to all families, students, and staff who joined us to learn about the AMAZING opportunities EHTHS offers! Every breakout session was filled with eager families exploring our academic academies, JROTC, athletics, and extracurricular activities. We loved seeing our future students in the halls and special thanks to the EHTHS cheerleaders, Drumline and Wingmen for welcoming families.
Congratulations to Journey Green and Averie Harding for earning C.A.L. All-Star Honors for Volleyball! Journey, team captain, recorded 110 kills and 124 digs, and Averie achieved 103 kills and 33 blocks this season. EHTHS was the only school with two athletes named All-Stars! Additionally, congrats to our Varsity and JV cheerleading teams for winning 1st place at the Holy Spirit cheer competition.
I hope everyone is having a fantastic break!
Ms. Carugno
Pre-K says Happy Halloween!
Noche Latina
On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, more than 70 people attended our Fall Noche Latina sharing a meal and building community. In addition to our meal, we were delighted by a show put on by our students in our Hispanohablantes classes. They danced a traditional dance from Colombia, La Pollera Colorá. We were also very fortunate to offer an outstanding educational session to our parents. Dr. Diaz-Claisse, founder and CEO of HISPA (Hispanics Inspiring Students’ Performance and Achievement), gave an insightful and inspiring talk about: The Power of Education: Overcoming Challenges, Achieving Success, all in Spanish. Thank you to all who attended.
Middle School Open House
Thank you to all of the families, students and staff who spent their evening with us learning all about the AMAZING opportunities EHTHS has to offer! Every breakout room was a full as the families learned about our academic academies, @ehtnjafjrotc @ehtnjathletics and various extracurricular offerings. It was great to see our future students in our halls. Special thank you to @ehthscheerleading__ and @ehtbassline for welcoming our families as they arrived.

ADDICTION DOES NOT DISCRIMINATE!
What is a drug?
A drug can be defined as a mood or mind altering substance. Alcohol is a drug. Nicotine is a drug--even though they're both legal.
The difference between substance abuse and addiction is as follows:
Substance abuse means using a substance, legal or illegal, in the wrong way.
Addiction, or chemical dependency, starts out as abuse, but the use becomes so powerful that before too long the user loses control. NOONE ever starts out with the intention to become chemically dependent. It CAN and WILL happen to anyone.
#DAY 1
The High School will be continuing with this bullying-prevention program for the 2024-25 school year!
#DAY1--a staff and student-led philosophy that will serve to foster a building-wide atmosphere of kindness and inclusion, outline expectations for behavior toward each other and the responsibility to intervene, report and to reach out for help if individuals observe bullying behavior.
This program was started a few years ago in Bergen County by the Tyler Clementi Foundation and has gained momentum throughout the state and country for use in schools, community groups, workplaces, and sports teams.
The premise is simple: the adults in the building make a “declaration statement” about behavior that is expected, as well as behavior that is unacceptable, and we all pledge to conduct ourselves accordingly.
This includes seeking help when we witness unacceptable behavior occurring--this notion is called being an Upstander--an #EHTUPSTANDER. Hit the play button below and see for yourself! 🤩
Has YOUR student taken their #Upstander Pledge yet?!?
Have them sign into their school account and click here! 😊

It's October Awareness Month!!
October is a big "awareness" month in schools across NJ via state mandated recognition:
Week of Respect (October 7-11)
School Violence Awareness Week (October 21-25)
Red Ribbon Week for substance abuse awareness and prevention (October 23-31)
Aggressive or "Bullying" Behavior 🔹 Violence 🔹 Suicide....it's ALL connected.
☑️ 2022 had the most school shootings on record, but U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security research shows that if we “know the signs” of gun violence, we can prevent it and reverse the trend.
▶️ The MAJORITY of individuals with diagnosed mental illness do not engage in violence against others. ◀️
☑️ 70% of people who die by suicide tell someone their plans or give some other type of warning signs.
☑️ 39% of parents wrongly believe their children don’t know where a gun is stored.
☑️ An estimated 4.6 million American children live in a home where at least one gun is kept loaded and unlocked.
☑️ 17 states have enacted Extreme Risk Laws, meaning that Law Enforcement can remove guns/weapons from a person deemed to be at risk. New Jersey HAS BEEN one of these states for a long time, but the majority has been implemented in other states following the school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 2018.
