June 2025 News
Message from Principal Hakala
Greetings, Blue Jay families!
Can't believe we are approaching the end of the school year once again! Just as the kinders release their newly formed butterflies, it's time for all of us to say goodbye to our energetic fifth-graders as they fly out into the world of middle school. (See below for fifth-grade happenings.)
May was a flurry of activity, with PTO events, concerts, field trips, and even a fun visit to PK Park for Centennial Night with the Ems.
Our afterschool literacy program wrapped up last week. Many thanks to Mrs. Ward, Ms. Arry, Mr. Mowery, and Mrs. Scott for stepping up to provide the fantastic opportunity to our kids! Still more students were able to receive intensive literacy sessions this year during the school day thanks to a district-wide grant, allowing us to reach more students than ever.
What a great year we've had! Thank you to everyone for their support and encouragement! Just a reminder that our office is closed at the end of June and will reopen in late August. We hope to see you for Popsicles on the Playground this summer!
Don Hakala, Principal

End of Year Activities
This is the time of year we get ready to say goodbye to our fabulous fifth-graders! They will be going on a fun-filled field trip to Skinner Butte and Defy on the 10th. Their last field day will be on the 11th. And on Thursday, June 12, they will have a parade around the school, followed by a promotion ceremony at 1:25. Families are welcome to join the fun!
Fifth-grade families should complete the annual review as always and this will serve as your registration for Hamlin Middle School. If they plan to attend a different school and you have an approved transfer already, choose the packet that says "Approved Transfers 25-26."
iPad Round-Up
Families, we need all K and 1 iPads turned in at the end of the school year for necessary software updates. These can be returned to your classroom teacher. Students will receive replacement devices in the fall.
Annual Review and Register
Families, there's still time to get your annual review completed! Each year, we ask every family to go through the Annual Review process in ParentVue to make sure your contact information and family details are all up-to-date. This helps us plan for incoming students. At this time you can also register any incoming students or let us know that your student will not be returning to Centennial.
Please log in here at your earliest convenience and complete the process! Forgot your login info? Give us a call, we can reset it!
Character Trait of the Month: Honesty
Honesty is about being truthful in what they say and do. Honesty builds trust through telling the truth even when it's hard, keeping promises, and not taking things that don't belong to you.
Here are some ways to build trust through honesty:
tell the truth, even if it's difficult.
Keep promises by doing what you say you will do.
Respect others' property and donβt take things that are not yours.
Be brave enough to admit when you make a mistake.
Avoid "Little White Lies" that can erode trust.
PBIS Update: Finishing Strong
Centennial Blue Jays are safe, respectful, responsible, and kind. June is all about finishing the year strong by maintaining good behavior and using the skills practiced all school year. The end of the school year is full of fun opportunities that are more enjoyable when everyone follows the behavior expectations!
