Raider Reporter Reports!
5/6 Ski Trip
On March seventeenth, fifth and sixth graders made St. Albans City School proud. They showed incredible perseverance through tough conditions on the ski hill while also keeping a positive attitude and a broad smile the entire day.
Monday was not the ideal day to be at Jay, but the fifth and sixth graders turned the lemons they were handed into lemonade. Skiing from nine to four, with some only breaking for lunch, there were many cases where the chaperones were asking to call it a day before the kids were!
This was the last ski trip of the year for sixth graders and, sadly, also the very last for many, as ski trips are not offered in seventh and eighth grade. But for countless students, it was their best yet. Thanks to three years of ski trips, all sixth graders were at the peak of their skiing abilities, so many were able to take trips up the Bonnie to test what they had learned after their years of practice—and good results could be found by the dozens!
Fifth graders are looking forward to their last ski trip in April, and sixth graders will hopefully be able to continue their skiing careers in the following years with help from resources provided by Jay Peak and others.
Great job to our fantastic skiers in fifth and sixth grade!

Musician of the Day!
Lucy is a xylophone rock star! She has been working hard to read notes on the treble clef staff and can now play multiple songs. Her dedication and enthusiasm for music shine through every note. When asked why music matters to her, she simply said, “Music is so fun!” Keep rocking, Lucy! 🎶⭐
Vermont Comprehensive Assessment Program
Dear City School Families,
This year, Vermont will be implementing the Vermont Comprehensive Assessment Program (VTCAP) provided by Cognia for the third time. The VTCAP is administered annually in the spring to students in grades 3 through 9 in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics; and to students in grades 5, 8, and 11 in science. The ELA and mathematics assessments are designed to measure students’ mastery of the Common Core State Standards. The science assessments are designed to measure students’ mastery of the Next Generation Science Standards. The VTCAP assessments are computer-adaptive with a variety of accessibility features available to students.
St. Albans City School VTCAP Test Schedule:
ELA (grades 3-8): Tuesday, April 8th and Wednesday April 9th
Math (grades 3-8): Thursday, April 10th and Friday, April 11th
Science (grades 5 & 8): Monday, April 14th and Tuesday, April 15th
Please be sure your students are here and on time during these testing days.
For test security purposes, all cell phones and smart watches will be handed in to the classroom teachers at the beginning of the testing period and returned at the end of the testing period that day.
Getting a good night’s sleep during these weeks and hearing words of encouragement are some of the best ways families can support their students during this time.
After students have completed testing, Individual Student Reports will be sent to families via email as soon as available. These reports will provide information on what your student(s) learned in relation to the statewide academic standards. When reviewing test scores, it is important to consider that these tests provide a broad overview of demonstrated learning and that results are most useful when viewed in the context of other information gathered by the teacher and the school. The primary purpose of our testing program is to provide families and school leaders with an increased understanding of how teaching and learning is taking place and how students’ needs are being met.
Please note that Vermont’s test delivery system uses state-of-the-art security features that protect your students’ privacy and adhere to all federal and state confidentiality regulations. To learn more about the VTCAP, please visit Vermont Help & Support (cognia.org).
If you have any questions, please contact Kyle Ashton (kashton@maplerun.org or Angie Fitzgerald (afitzgerald@maplerun.org).

Restorative Practices
We are excited to invite the Maple Run community to join us for two informative sessions on restorative practices, hosted by Maple Run Unified School District with guests from Starling Collaborative. These sessions will explore how restorative practices can strengthen relationships, promote accountability, and create a supportive environment for our students, families, and educators. You’ll learn valuable strategies for fostering a positive, inclusive community both at school and at home.
Facilitators for these sessions include Jeff Rouleau, a Maple Run parent, teacher, coach, and Restorative Practices Trainer, and Stacie Rouleau, a Maple Run parent, teacher, coach, administrator, and Restorative Practices Trainer. Camille Koosmann, representing Starling Collaborative, is a restorative practitioner, trainer, and coach who formerly led the Restorative Practices in Schools program for the Franklin Grand Isle Restorative Justice Center.
