Principal Message
Dear Duniway Families,
Hello and happy sunny Friday to you all! I hope you have had a good week. It has been a smooth week for us at Duniway as we have enjoyed this nice weather and completed our fourth week of school. The year is flying by, isn't it?
Next week we are looking forward to some big events at school. First off, on Wednesday, September 25, we will have our first planned early release day of the year and students will be dismissed at 11:50am. We will be holding our first whole school assembly that day @ 8:25am. We will gather as a school community in the auditorium and enjoy an assembly with the theme of "Belonging." Our goal is that every student and family feel they belong at Duniway and feel a part of the Duniway community and we will celebrate this value at our first assembly. After school dismissal, we will later spend time as a staff reviewing our beginning of the year assessments and also diving deeper into our Social Emotional Learning curriculum. The following day, Thursday, September 26, we are excited to be hosting performers from Cirque du Soleil for a Duniway performance! This is a unique opportunity provided free of charge and our students are very excited for this event. Finally, later that evening we will be having our annual Back to School Night @ 6pm. I know we are all excited to welcome you for this opportunity to visit our school and our classrooms. Please see information below about the agenda for this evening. Next week will be a busy and exciting one!
That is all I have to share for now and I wish you all a restful and enjoyable weekend!
Sincerely,
John Melvin
Principal

Duniway Book Fair!
It’s time again for that special fall feeling, and that includes…BOOKS! The Fall Fair starts everyday after school the week of September 30, in the Duniway library. We will close at 5:30pm this year. All the profits from your purchases become trade credit with Scholastic that is used by our librarian, Ms. Boyd, and all your classroom teachers, to add to their libraries. The books you buy literally become more books for all the kids to use! Our community always comes through for the fair, so can’t wait to see you there.
We still need some more volunteers to staff the registers. If you are new to Duniway, this is an easy and fun way to volunteer. We train you on the register right there and your kids can be with you. Shifts are 1.5 hours. Every other parent who checks out says to you, “Thank you for volunteering your time!” Please check the remaining spots on Konstella to sign up.
You can also email erinnspencer@gmail.com and lindseyhaugen@gmail.com with questions about volunteering, or joining the Book Fair committee!
Duniway Foundation Board Election and Survey
The Duniway Foundation is ready for a great year of fundraising for our amazing school. Please vote to elect this year's Board of Directors and participate in a short survey HERE by Sept. 24th so that we can get off and running! We are excited to be continuing our fundraising efforts and continuing our commitment to increasing engagement, building community, and supporting our students. If you are interested in helping the Duniway Foundation or being on the board, please email Andrea Angell at president@duniwayfoundation.org.
PTA Meetings
Did you miss the PTA meeting last week? If so, please read up on what was discussed via the meeting minutes HERE.
The next general PTA meeting will be held on November 12th at 7pm in the Duniway Library.
After School Programs
There are still spots available in several programs, including yoga (K-5, Thursdays, taught by former Duniway PE teacher Ms. Austin), gymnastics (K-3, Tuesdays, new program), Creative Me (3-5, Mondays, taught by Duniway parent), coding (Monday K-2, Friday 3-5) and band (4-5, Wednesdays, beginner and intermediate classes).
Check the schedule for registration and start dates, contact programs directly with any questions, and please make sure your students know which days they are signed up for activities.
