A Child's Prayer for Grandparents
Dear God,
Please bless my grandparents.
Thank you for the life they gave my parents
and for the life, they give to me.
For the ways they helped me and made me strong, I give thanks.
For the ways, they love me no matter what, I rejoice.
For the ways, they have paved the road
that leads me here, I am grateful.
Let them grow in wisdom and joy in life.
Let them find peace and rest from their work.
Let them be healed of every sickness and pain.
And let them see with their own eyes your glory
and the love of their children and grandchildren.
Bless them always until they come to rest in you.

GRATITUDE 🙏
Hello Bruin Family,
It's days like today that fill me with immense gratitude for the community at St. Dorothy Catholic School. Gratitude for the love of neighbor present in the smiles to one another and the joyful conversation that follows. Gratitude for a dedicated staff that consistently rises to the occasion. Gratitude for a parent community that goes above and beyond despite their own work schedules to create an unforgettable experience. And lastly, gratitude for the unconditional love of our Grandparents and Special Persons, including my own, who remind us of what is most important in life.
I would also like to thank everyone for the warm birthday wishes this week. From the countless "Happy Birthdays" from our students throughout the day, to the cards, coffees, and well-wishes...I am again full of gratitude.
Next week we kickoff our Halloween festivities with our annual Trunk or Treat on Friday. We cannot wait to see you there! We will have noon dismissal again next week, but we will be offering daycare. See below for more upcoming events and important information regarding school activities.
May your weekend be filled with the joy and love of family and the gift of rest!
Mr. Ryan Nearhoff

CHILD SAFETY 🚨
Did You Know?
October 19-20 || Taking pictures or videos of a minor without permission
What can be done if a person is taking pictures of a minor in a public place? Although it is legal that a person can take pictures or videos in a public place, there are sometimes extenuating circumstances that require adults to pay more attention. Is the person taking photos acting suspiciously — focusing on only minor children, for example, or zooming in on specific body areas of their subjects? Are they hovering around groups of children with no seeming reason for being there? If you have concerns, speak up. Ask why the photos are being taken, or if the person is willing to delete the images of your child. From there, you can decide if you need to get the authorities involved. For more information, read the VIRTUS® article “When People Take Photos and Videos of Minors Without Permission” at lacatholics.org/did-you-know/
October 26-27 || Trick or treating safety
Halloween is one of the most exciting nights of the year for children, but it can be a nerve-wracking night for the parents who have to run the show. Consider a few safety tips to get your family ready for trick-or-treating. Choose bright colored costumes and give your children flashlights and/or glow sticks to make them easily visible. Visit neighborhoods you know well, with lit streets and houses. Prep your children with your cell phone number, either memorized or written down in their pockets or even on their arms, in case you get separated. For more tips, visit https://diocesecc.org/news/halloween-safety-tips.
Mission Statement
To educate TK-Eighth grade students in a Catholic environment in which the curriculum emphasizes spiritual, ethical, and social values of the Catholic faith to become responsible and moral citizens within the global community.
Philosophy
Supporting the belief that parents are the primary educators of their children, we as educators at St. Dorothy Catholic School, dedicate ourselves to partner with the parents in preparing children to become contributing members of the community. To achieve this, we provide holistic development in psychological, emotional, social and physical health, with an emphasis on academics, faith, and Christian service.
In collaboration with parents, we champion student achievement through the presentation, practice, and study of Catholic doctrine, a strong academic curriculum, multimedia and multi-cultural experiences, physical education, extracurricular programs, and the dedicated commitment of the teachers and staff.
