LMS Weekly Update
October 4, 2024
Focus on the Good
Celebrating and acknowledging the successes of students and each other
On Thursday, we once again gathered together as a community for a school-wide assembly with a very special guest. Singer/Songwriter, David Francisco, shared his powerful story of surviving a spinal cord injury. Students listened to his message about how our choices matter, and the importance of setting goals and working hard to achieve them! Students were also able to hear his incredible singing!
Safety & Belonging
Operating a safe and inclusive school environment for all
Consistency
Providing predictability through instruction, expectations, and daily practices
Robotics Team
Monday, October 7 will be the last Robotics Club Exploration Session for students interested in learning more about the competition team. Official team meetings begin on Monday, October 21 from 3:15-4:30 in Room 115, and will continue each Monday after school through the beginning of February. Additional meeting times may be needed as the competition approaches. Any student that contributes to designing and programming a team robot, researching for the team project, and team building with peers, will be invited to join the competition team. Contact Mrs. Zabierek or Miss Overturf with any questions.
Trimester 1 Progress Reports
Mid-trimester progress reports will soon be coming home with your child. These updates are intended to provide you with a snapshot of your child's academic, behavioral, and attendance progress half-way through the trimester. It is also an opportunity for families to intervene on behalf of their students by communicating with grade level teams to develop a plan for improvement before the end of trimester report cards are issued. In addition to academic scores, students will also be assessed on their Habits (Respect, Own It, Commit, Kindness, Speak Up). Student standing--either Good Standing or Conditional Status--is determined by the scores they receive on their Habits.

Curriculum & Instruction
Maximizing time with students and families to promote positive academic outcomes
Classroom Circles
We love walking through the building each morning to check-in with classrooms as they engage in Advisory lessons. As you see in the pictures below, most of our classrooms chose to "Circle Up" during this time. Holding a circle is a great tool to build community, climate, and culture. Circles help build social and emotional skills. Circles intentionally create an equitable culture where there is no power imbalance. A restorative circle signifies that all participants are on the same playing field, which builds group ownership of maintaining the boundaries, expectations, and procedures.
October Advisory - Goal Setting
During the next couple of weeks in Advisory, students will be exploring career options, writing SMART goals for different domains of their lives including family, friends, school, hobbies, health, and fun, and thinking about how they want their future selves to be remembered.
