First day of school and visitors
I'm sure that many parents will be concerned that their child will not know where to go in a new building. In order to address this we will be creating a set of videos that take students on a tour of our campus. This will include where to go if they are bus riders, car riders, or walk to school. In addition, we will have adults stationed every 50 feet in the building during the first week of school to ensure that students get to class safely. The videos will be posted to our social media pages as well as handed out via QR codes on a piece of paper at our Drive-Through Open House event on Aug. 10 from 3:00-7:00 pm.

School Day
7:20-7:45 The car rider line is open for student drop off.
7:50 Instruction begins- Students need to be in class at this time.
2:50 End of instruction. Student dismissal begins.
2:50-3:15 The car rider line ends at 3:15. All students must be picked up by 3:15.
*If you arrive after 7:45 am you will need to park in the main parking lot out front and walk your child into the front office. The car rider line does not run until 7:50 am because students are expected to be in class at 7:50.
*If you need to sign your child out of school early please do so before 2:30 pm. The end of the day is a very busy time of day as front office personnel sends notes to classrooms and begins calling for dismissals. Please help us safely get all students home by allowing them to stay the full day and picking them up in the car rider line.
Car Rider Info
· Morning drop-off is from 7:20-7:45. Please do not drop your child off without an adult present. Students are tardy if they are not in the classroom at 7:50.
· If you arrive after 7:45, please park in the front parking lot and walk your child into the office. Please do not drop your child off in front of the building.
· Please have your child gather their bags and unbuckle themselves from car seats while waiting in line or by pulling out of line into the grass. Please be ready to exit the car when you arrive at the covered walkway. Staff members will not buckle and unbuckle students from car seats. Please understand that this looks inappropriate.
· Afternoon pick up is from 2:50-3:15.
· All schools have staggered start and end times. BCES has the earliest start and end times. If you have children in multiple schools, you will need to start at BCES and then go to the other schools due to our early start and dismissal times.
· If you want your child to eat breakfast at school they need to arrive by 7:30 in order to eat and be in class by 7:50 when instruction begins.
· We can’t accommodate 30 cars arriving in the car rider line at the last minute. The line will be shut down promptly at 7:45 to allow students time to walk to class which begins promptly at 7:50. If you are still in line you will be asked to drive around front, park, and walk your child to the front office. Please arrive early. The line is open for 25 minutes.
· Car riders will be called at 2:50 and all students should be off campus by 3:05 after the first two weeks of school. Expect long lines and delays the first week of school as many parents prefer to drop off and pick up their children during this time. The car rider line will be open from 2:50-3:15. All students must be picked up by 3:15. School start times are staggered. BCES has the earliest start and end time. Please plan to drop off and pick up your students at BCES before going to other schools.
· We will distribute car rider tags at the end of the second week of school. Your child’s name will be written on this tag and the tag should be displayed from the rearview mirror when the parent comes to pick up the child in the afternoon. Remembering to display your visor tags helps speed up the car rider line significantly.
Health and Safety
The central office, with guidance from the Department of Public Health, the Centers For Disease Control, and the Georgia Department of Education, have established guidelines for ensuring the safety of all students and staff. We will utilize these steps to provide the safest possible environment for your child.
-The building has been deep cleaned to provide a safe and sanitary environment before student arrival
-Students will wear masks
-Staff members will wear masks
-Anyone running a fever will be sent home immediately
-Visitors on campus will be severely limited
-Students will be educated about proper and frequent hand washing
- Students will be educated about how to sneeze without spreading germs
-Signs will be posted reminding students how to be safe
-Soap and hand sanitizer will be available to all classrooms and throughout the school
-All rooms and buses will be cleaned/disinfected daily to kill any germs
-Ventilation systems are being adjusted to circulate outdoor air more frequently
-Students will be asked to bring clear water bottles from home rather than use water fountains
-Lunch tables will be cleaned between classes
-Lunch staff will key in student ID numbers in the lunch line, so students don’t have to touch the keypad
-Disposable plates and utensils will be used
-Lunch tables are aligned where students do not have anyone sitting across from them
-No-touch hand dryers and trashcans are provided in all restrooms
-Every effort will be made to maintain spacing between students during transitions in the building
Medicine
All medication is to be taken to the office or clinic by a parent and/or guardian with a note explaining the proper administration of the medicine. While students are at school, medications will be kept and administered in the office or clinic. While at school, students may only be administered prescription medications that have been prescribed to them. Medications must be kept in the original container and must clearly show that the medicine has been prescribed for the student. Nonprescription medicine must be accompanied by a note from the parent. Prescription medication will be logged in, and an inventory will be updated as the medication is taken. Please bring all medication to the clinic between 7:20 a.m. and 7:50 a.m.
Breakfast and Lunch
Breakfast and lunch are served daily in the cafeteria. All students will receive free breakfast this year at BCES. Lunch costs $2.85. Students who qualify for free and reduced-price meals will not be charged. Payments for meals must be in cash, by money order, or via our new online payment system https://www.myschoolbucks.com/. Personal checks will be accepted for a minimum of $35.00. Meals may be paid for in advance. Students should pay for lunches in the cafeteria from 7:20-7:50 each morning. If parents forget to provide lunch money for a student, the child will be allowed to eat. When charges are made, the parent will be contacted and informed of these charges. All charges will need to be paid quickly. Fruit slushies are available every day at a cost of $1. Please bring cash or change to purchase slushies. If your child has a negative balance on their account, they will not be allowed to purchase snacks.
Cell phones
Cell phones are not needed at school. If a student has a cell phone/watch/I-Watch at school, it must be turned off and in the child’s book bag. If a child has the cell phone out in class, restroom, etc. the phone will be taken up and placed in the office until a parent comes to get it. Every child has a Chromebook with internet access at school and therefore has no need for a phone at school. If someone steals your child’s phone during the school day, the school is in no way responsible for paying for your phone or trying to track it down.
