As we come to the end of our blessed month of Ramadan, Madina Academy held a wonderful Eid Celebration on Friday, April 28th. It was a day filled with joy, laughter, and lots of fun activities that were enjoyed by all.
The day started with a burst of excitement as students were treated to balloon animals, sand art, canvas painting, face painting, henna, and so much more. The craft table was full of creative options, including bookmark and mask making. The bouncy house obstacle course was a hit with the younger children, while the older ones enjoyed playing volleyball, soccer, and basketball.
The Eid Celebration was a great way for our students to unwind after a busy month of fasting and studying. We were so grateful to the PTS for arranging this day for us and giving us a chance to enjoy some much-needed downtime.
There was also plenty of food and snacks to enjoy, including ice cream and pizza, which were a hit with everyone. It was a lovely way to celebrate the end of the holy month of Ramadan, and we are grateful to have shared this experience with our fellow students and teachers.
Unfortunately, the kids are sadly going back to a 3:30pm dismissal instead of 1:30pm, which has left many of them feeling a bit down *wamp wamp 😭*. However, the Eid Celebration brought a sense of joy and happiness to the school, and we hope that it will remain with us for a long time to come.
With 7 whole entire weeks of school left, we are determined to make the most of our time together. The Eid Celebration was a great reminder of the importance of community, and we are grateful for the opportunity to come together and celebrate in such a meaningful way. Thank you again to the PTS for arranging this wonderful day for us.
Advice Column, By:Salma Mahmoud, Grade 10
Q: Sometimes my friends try to convince me to do bad things, and I’m worried one day I’ll end up doing it. It’s hard to say no when everyone is doing something.
A: There is a hadith by the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) that says, “A man is on the religion of his friend, so each should consider who he makes his friend.” Of course, our most important thing is our religion -- everything else good will follow. The wisdom of this hadith is that if you are friends with someone who is on the deen, in action and not just in name, they will be a good influence on you.
Unfortunately, though, it is hard to find good friends, especially in this day and age. We are all extremely faulty, and peer pressure is real. When we are friends with someone, we tend to absorb both the good and bad from each other. However, you can use this to your advantage. The first step is to acknowledge what your priorities are -- inshaAllah, the answer is always to please Allah (SWT). Then, you find friends with similar priorities. It’s ok if you all have not reached your best potential yet. That is what you’ll be working towards, and when you have good friends, you will remind each other when you fall into something bad.
But what should you do when it’s impossible to find friends who share the same morals as you? First, you must be well learned in Islam, because everything Islam tells us to do is right -- no wrong will come to us from following it. You have to be so firm in your religion that no one will be able to sway you into doing something you know is haram. Most importantly, however, you have to learn to say “No”. A lot of the time, we know what is correct but we can’t bring ourselves to disagree with the majority out of fear that we will be seen as uncool or lame. This is the hardest part. Learning to place your morals over your social standing is easier said than done, but always remember that we are on this earth for only 100 years max out of infinity.
High School Section, By:Marriam Khan Grade 12
April has seen many events for the highschoolers. As the end of the year approaches, the students are working hard to make sure their last quarter is their best one. The 10th graders had their first practice SAT (PSAT) on April 26th. It was a new experience for them, one that aided in familiarizing them with the actual SAT test. They also attended a dual program community college application workshop on the 28th to prepare them for their part-time college life in their junior and senior years. Members of the National Honor Society in highschool were also chosen this month (check last month’s post to see the newest members of the society!). A wonderful addition to the school, the NHS of Madina Academy aims to help student life as well as provide service and leadership, while sticking to their duties.
Let’s not forget, graduation is also around the corner! The seniors had their annual photoshoot and are hoping to showcase their many years at Madina Academy at their graduation. Decision Day was also something to be excited about, as the seniors have chosen which colleges they will be attending in the fall. #huskies4life!

Descriptive Pieces
The Classroom by Juman Tuffaha
I’m sitting alone in the dark, depressing classroom. While the gray, gloomy wall frowns at me. I’m trying to cover my head unsuccessfully with the smartboard flashing a bright white as if an angel is here to end my misery, the rain makes a damp, musky smell while going plop, plop on the ground one by one and I felt my woes add up from all the tiny raindrops, to becoming one big flood of dilemmas. The sound of the rain rapidly dropping one by one reminded me that each one is obstructing part of my life. The sounds of the rain hitting the window like bullets each one louder than the last. The sound of the rain was toned out by the lonely class, it was so bitter I could even taste it. BOOM! A flash of lightning lit up the classroom
for a second. The room was begging for more color -the only colors were gray, and white. There was one desk bragging about being different and being made from wood, but all together the desks were asking for more colors even the wooden one. There was little else but a wall behind me and nothing but desks and a wall in front of me. Everywhere you looked it was all desks and walls with two exceptions the white board and the window, but outside the window all you could see was rain and after a couple meters you could see the woods. I could feel the hard and cold desk beneath my fingers and the unbearably cold chair under me.
The House by Hamza Sallam
My eyes felt blurry and my head felt heavy. I couldn't see what was in front of me whether it was a geriatric treehouse sitting on the ground or whether it was a big black boat sailing through the sky. The sky rolled out as if it was a Persian carpet that was just made ready to be sold to customers. It had a brick- blue stone wall or maybe even a door that slithered over me like the Great Wall of China. I could feel the venerable wet moss spread around like a virus ready to kill. The only thing I could see clearly were tall trees commodious and strong like Vietnamese soldiers ready for battle. They were standing perpetually on top of the grass that was their battlefield. I could see it dancing to the wind’s moody melody. Its hands held swords and its leaves were armor. Their roots rumbled and its bark bumbled. I felt alone in the middle of nowhere. As it started to fog up, I tasted an astringent soggy dampness in my mouth. BOOM! BOOM! I could hear a thrashing sounds strike the ground as it created smoke. My eyes watered up and the smoke tickled my nose. I took a deep breath and smelt something soothing nearby that made my mouth water. The warm aroma sent me to where I’d never been before somewhere magical. The bright royal yellow sun slashed my face with the sword of excalibur demonetizing its way through war.
The Lion by Noora Mahmoud
I slowly trudge through the darkness of the night. I come to a halt as I see, perched on a
rugged rock, a lion as massive as a truck. It is a stormy night, and the only things illuminating the
sky are the moon and the occasional bolts of lightning, bright and blinding. The rain soaks my
clothes as I stare at the creature standing before me, terrified. In front of the lion, a bloody,
gruesome green goose, sliced in half, is as still as a frozen pond. The lion’s mane flashes fiery
fluorescent orange as the next bolt of lightning strikes. Its fur, as yellow as the sun, ripples in the
howling wind. Its tail swings through the air like a whip. Bright, sticky, red blood slowly drips
from its mouth. The pitter-patter of the rain grows louder, and the damp, musky air is all I can
taste. The sharp, metallic scent of blood fills my nose, suffocating me. The lion opens its mouth
and lets out a screeching, ear-splitting roar that shakes the ground. The lion’s teeth gleam pearly
white and I shield my ears in horror. Ice-cold rain stings my face. The moon peeks through the
thick, angry clouds. The lion’s bloodshot eyes twinkle in the moonlight as it glares at me
furiously like an erupting volcano. I decipher that look as a warning to keep away from its prey.
Another flash of lightning and boom of thunder. I shrink back in terror as cold, hollow fear
envelopes me.
The Sea by Fatiha Islam
Gently hovering over the sand while the light breeze was going through my thick black hair, the
loud swishing sound of the waves was relaxing and comforting. The salty blue wate sparkled like diamonds, The never-ending sound of the waves roaring while the tree branches howl in the
breeze of the ocean. Bright red apples on a very tall tree that looked as if it was a skyscraper.
Green bright leaves reminded me of emeralds. The light buzz from bright striped bees went past
my face, the boat sploshing and gurgling in the salty seawater. The Shimmering sand under the
smiling sun, and sparking sea water winking at me. The silky red apples hanging down the big
tall tree, where the sea is softly swaying .
