Partnering with You
At Coldwater High School we measure our success by your student's success. Parents support their student’s success in high school in a number of ways, including:
Creating a Supportive Home Environment:
- Establish a quiet, organized space for studying and doing homework.
- Encourage a consistent daily routine that includes time for schoolwork, rest, and time away from screens.
Promote Healthy Habits:
- Ensure your child gets enough sleep each night, as fatigue can impact learning and focus.
- Provide nutritious meals that fuel the body and brain for academic performance. Remember, that all students are eligible to receive breakfast and lunch at CHS every day.
- Encourage regular physical activity to help reduce stress and improve concentration.
Monitor Academic Progress:
- Stay involved in your child’s academic life by regularly checking grades, assignments, and attendance through school portals or progress reports. Use your Skyward login and ask your student about their progress in each class.
- Communicate with teachers and attend parent-teacher conferences to stay informed about their progress.
Encourage Good Study Habits:
- Help your child develop time management skills by using a calendar or planner for tracking assignments and deadlines.
- Support the establishment of a consistent homework routine and encourage your child to start assignments early rather than procrastinate.
Foster Open Communication:
- Talk to your child about their day, what they’re learning, and any challenges they may face. Show interest and listen to their concerns.
- Help them set realistic goals and celebrate their achievements, big or small.
Encourage Active Class Participation:
- Motivate your child to be engaged in their classes, ask questions, and seek help when needed.
- Support their involvement in extracurricular activities that align with their interests, as these can build skills, friendships, and confidence.
Guide Toward Independence:
- Gradually encourage your child to take responsibility for their own learning, helping them become more self-reliant and accountable.
- Teach problem-solving skills and resilience in handling setbacks, which will prepare them for both academic and life challenges.
By taking these steps, parents can create a strong foundation for their child’s academic success and overall well-being throughout high school. We appreciate everything you do as we partner with you for your student's success.
National Merit Semifinalist!
CHS senior, Evan Poradzisz, has been named as a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist. Evan is one of only 16,000 students across the country named as semifinalists. Evan will be competing for over 6,000 National Merit Scholarships worth over $25 million. Evan certainly personifies the National Merit Scholarship Corporation's goals of recognizing scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.

Pathfinder: Career Resources
The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) has partnered with the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) and created a list of resources for high school students and their parents called Pathfinder. Pathfinder is an online career exploration and planning tool to help increase the number of Michigan residents with high-quality, in-demand degrees and credentials by providing information to students to make informed choices about educational and career options. The enhanced Pathfinder resources are organized to help students and their families review college information, find financial aid information, secure a job, serve their community or country, assess their skills if unsure of their path, and explore opportunities to earn college credit or receive training while in high school.
Pathfinder resources can be found at the website below.
Voter Registration
Participating in elections is one of the most important ways we can shape the future of our communities, our state, and our nation. By casting your vote, you are making your voice heard on issues that affect you, your family, and your future. From education and healthcare to jobs, elections give us the power to choose leaders who represent our values and priorities.
For students turning 18, voting is a key responsibility of citizenship. It's an opportunity to engage in our democracy and help build a better world. Your vote matters!
How to Register to Vote:
Visit the Michigan Secretary of State’s Voter Information center
Online: Michigan allows residents to register online if they have a valid Michigan driver's license or state ID. Visit the official Michigan Voter Information Center to get started.
In-Person: You can register to vote at your county, city, or township clerk's office, as well as at any Secretary of State branch office.
By Mail: Download and print the voter registration form, fill it out, and mail it to your local clerk's office.
Remember, the deadline to register to vote online or by mail is 15 days before an election. However, you can also register in person up to and on Election Day itself.
By registering to vote and participating in elections, you are stepping up to make a difference in your community. Encourage your friends and family to do the same. Together, we can create a future that reflects our shared hopes and dreams.
Let your voice be heard—register, vote, and shape the future!
High Reliability Schools
At Coldwater High School, we are committed to providing the highest quality education for your student. To support this goal, we are implementing the principles of Marzano’s High Reliability Schools (HRS) framework, a research-based approach that helps schools continuously improve and create safe, supportive, and effective learning environments.
The HRS framework consists of five levels:
Safe and Collaborative Culture: Ensuring a positive, respectful, and inclusive school environment where all students feel safe and supported.
Effective Teaching in Every Classroom: Providing ongoing professional development for teachers to improve instructional practices and ensure students receive high-quality education.
Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum: Ensuring that all students have access to a challenging and comprehensive curriculum that aligns with academic standards.
Standards-Referenced Reporting: Using data to measure student progress and provide clear, meaningful feedback that guides improvement.
Competency-Based Education: Supporting personalized learning so that students progress based on their mastery of content, not just time spent in class.
By focusing on these key areas, we are committed to creating an environment where every student can succeed. Your partnership in this journey is vital, and we look forward to working together to achieve these goals.
