Second Chance Breakfast
The Second Chance Breakfast initiative, part of the PA Breakfast Expansion program, started this week at CHS! Please encourage your CHS student to arrive on time each day to take advantage of a hot, nutritious breakfast.
2nd Marking Period
The second marking period at CHS ends on January 24, 2025. Please support your student by encouraging them to complete all assignments, especially any that are overdue. If they have questions, it's important for them to contact their teacher for guidance. Working together with teachers can help them overcome challenges and finish the marking period strong.
Denial of Credit
Regular classroom attendance is essential for a continuous educational experience. Frequent absenteeism disrupts instruction and can lead to student failure, as well as violations of state compulsory attendance laws. To promote student attendance, the Chester Upland School District will implement the following measures for the 2024-2025 school year and beyond:
1. To obtain academic credit for a course, students must be in attendance and have their attendance recorded at least 90% of the time that a class/course is scheduled. Failure to attend at least 90% of the scheduled classes of any course will result in a denial of credit for that course.
2. When a student accumulates four or more unexcused absences for any half-year class/course and eight or more unexcused absences in any full-year class/course, the student and parent/guardian will be notified for a mandatory meeting regarding academics, denial of credit, and attendance.
3. The parent/guardian must acknowledge in writing that they received the information regarding the denial of credit. The staff at Chester High School is working diligently to ensure that all students meet the Pennsylvania Department Education Standards to advance to the next grade and continue to meet all requirements for promotion and graduation. As a result, we provide opportunities for students to attend the CHS After School Program to meet the requirements of those lost classroom hours.
