March 11, 2025
Dear TUFSD Families and Staff,
March is in full swing, bringing a whirlwind of exciting activities! From book fairs to guest readers, our scholars are immersing themselves in the joy of reading all month long. It’s wonderful to see our community come together to celebrate literacy and learning.
Our talented students have been showcasing their skills at various events, from competitions to performances, and we couldn’t be prouder of their dedication and passion. We’re also looking forward to the spring musical and appreciate the hard work our students, staff, and volunteers are putting in to bring it to life. Their dedication and creativity are sure to make this year’s production a memorable one.
As always, thank you for your continued support of the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns!
Sincerely,
Dr. Raymond Sanchez
BOE Approves Ex-Officio Student Member Role
We are pleased to announce that the Board of Education has approved the addition of an Ex-Officio Student Board of Education Member starting in the 2025-2026 school year. This important step reflects their commitment to amplifying student voices and ensuring that our students have an active role in shaping the future of our schools.
The student representative to the Board of Education will hold many of the similar rights, privileges, responsibilities, and recognitions as our elected trustees. This is an incredible opportunity for students to engage in the governance process, represent their peers, and contribute to meaningful discussions that impact our school community. Applications will be sent to students soon, and we encourage all interested candidates to apply.
We look forward to welcoming our student representatives and working together to enhance student engagement and leadership in our district.
School District Budget
During our last Board of Education meeting, we continued our budget discussions.
The budget calls for enhanced support of the literacy program in the elementary schools, improved data systems, electrical capital improvements, an increase in bus drivers to heighten the efficiency of our transportation services, ongoing safety and security enhancements and other smaller adjustments, while maintaining the core services and programs that our students require.
This budget focuses on maintaining favorable staffing levels and class size, maintaining or
improving important instructional resources, and adjusting transportation staffing to better serve our families. At this time, we are more than 1% below our allowable tax levy increase, and we ramain keenly focused on the collective needs of our community.
The budget also supports ongoing instructional reformation and advancement of student achievement through support for Social Emotional Learning (SEL) efforts and examination of class size and new electives at the high school.
Three new instructional positions are anticipated, two part-time support staff positions will be added, and cost-neutral restructurings of four positions will take place. On March 15, we will hold a Saturday budget session, starting at 8:30 a.m.
The ongoing evolution of the district to best serve our families and the broader Tarrytown school district community continues with careful deliberation and rigor. We are creating a continuum of learning – from our PreK students through our graduates – who will be advantaged at every step of the way with opportunities to realize the best version of themselves and learners and community members.
We remain committed to keeping our community updated throughout the process. Please consider visiting our website.
Thank you for your continued support.

Winter Wonderland Book Fair
⛄📚 Students at JP went on an "Arctic Adventure" as they discovered that reading is SNOW much fun! They browsed through tons of books before selecting their favorites to take home—some even donated to their teacher's library.
"The PTA's goal with every book fair is to make sure each child goes home with a book and cultivates a love of reading. We are grateful to the generosity of families who support this annual fundraiser which also helps teachers add to their classroom libraries," said Annie Cauthren, from the Horsemen PTA.
Thank you, Horsemen PTA, for organizing this wonderful event!
