Carroll High School Weekly Community Newsletter
Message From The Principal
Greetings Tigers!
As I reflect on this school year, I am reminded of the pride I feel for the success our students have enjoyed. Throughout the month of May, we have celebrated with numerous performances, banquets, and ceremonies, all leading up to our graduating class of 2024 walking the stage and transitioning into their futures post-high school. We are incredibly proud of them and wish our seniors the very best!
I also acknowledge that we continue to face challenges in our work as educators every day. However, I want you to know that we see those challenges as opportunities to grow and set strategies that will lead to stronger student outcomes.
In this week's newsletter, we will share how we have performed in relation to our campus goals for 2023-24. I am particularly proud of our collective process that began in July 2023, involving meetings with parents, community members, faculty, staff, and students to set our campus and community priorities and strategies to achieve our goals.
Before my time as an administrator, I was a long-time coach, and a season can be met with many twists and turns. However, setting clear and defined goals provides direction for the entire team; and when challenges arise, we can navigate them with purpose and intentionality. I feel we have achieved this coherence, have stayed the course, and have done some great things this year. They say, "organizations move at the speed of trust," and I thank you for your continuous and constant support this year. I am confident you will be pleased with the results you see below. #TPND
Your Proud Principal,
Mr. Arredondo
Campus Goals Updates
Shared Goal Setting - Our Community Values Statement
We are so thankful for the input and voice of our parents and community. In Auguest, we created our Collective Values Statement and discussed our goals and action steps for 2023-24. Such meaningful and authentic conversations were had. We then shared with faculty, staff and students! The following was created from the shared values of all groups: "We, the Carroll Community, value a school system where the academic and personal growth of the whole child, a safe environment, and empathy are the focus of each classroom and program. We value open communication, transparency, and consistency. We respect trustworthy decision-making made with integrity by all administrators, educators, and students."
Community and School Culture
Community strength was one of the initiatives of this year's campus improvement plan. Two measurable outcomes were to increase PTA membership by 400% and improve parent communication perception by 20% on surveys. I'm thrilled to share that our PTA membership increased by 962%, the highest increase among all PTAs in the coastal bend. We received membership goal awards each month and were recognized for our improvements. At the mid-year survey for Capturing Kids' Hearts, we had already surpassed the 20% improvement goal. Additionally, our campus was named a National Showcase School for Capturing Kids' Hearts, a first for high schools in CCISD. Congratulations to our community for these remarkable improvements!
Career Preparation and Post Graduation Success
Ensuring that our students are prepared for college and careers is one of our main priorities. Two measurable metrics are the TSIA2 college readiness exam and the CCMR rate. Our goal was to increase the number of students passing the TSIA2 exam by 15%, and we are proud to report a 36% improvement this year. This was achieved through intentional strategies, boot camps, and excellent instruction in every classroom. We are grateful to our teachers and departments for making this a top priority. The CCMR rate is the percentage of students demonstrating college readiness by achieving a certain standard on a college-based exam, earning college credit in high school, or obtaining an industry-based certifications. Our goal was to increase this rate by 10%, and we are pleased to see a potential 20% increase when all numbers are in. We are proud of our AP teachers, career and technology educators, and all staff who have been preparing our students for college-level assessments!
