What is MUN?
Model UN is a simulation of the UN General Assembly and its other multilateral bodies where students perform an ambassador role while debating topics such as gender equality, climate action, global health, and more. Through public speaking, critical thinking, and in-depth research, the Model UN experience allows students to cultivate skills and enrich their global affairs knowledge.
MUN at Deal
Model UN at Deal has had a rich and successful history. Students have been active in the club locally and nationally. Some students want to learn about global topics and countries while others like to hone their conference skills of speaking, writing, collaborating, and researching. In 2017 middle school students at Deal planned and executed their first run-by and for middle schoolers conference. This was not only the first in the area, but one of the first in the country! When the pandemic hit, the secretariat took their planning virtual and for both of our 2020 and 2021 conferences, hosted an online conference. We hope to host our conference again this April and hope you will be a part of it!
Thank you Mr. Duncan!
A Special Thanks to Mr. Robert Duncan (dad of Andrew Duncan!!) for being the first on our Speakers List this year! Mr. Duncan shared the similarities and differences between the UN and the US Senate! We loved hearing from you Mr. Duncan! Thank you!
Interested in Being Added to the Speakers List?
The Speakers List was created to tap into the wealth of global expertise and experience at Deal.
Each week a speaker shares about their own experiences, professionally and globally, with our club members.
Students are encouraged to come with an open mind and ask questions. All students are welcome! No experience or registration needed! Join us!
Interested in signing up for a date? Please do so here:
Ms. Trenkle will be in touch with follow up information closer to your speaking day. Generally, it is suggested to provide a short bio (to introduce you with on the day of your talk), a powerpoint presentation, and a talk of about 30 minutes with 10 minutes or so of questions.

SDG Youth Workshop at Georgetown University on November 16, 2024--1 spot left!
It is my pleasure to invite Alice Deal Middle School to Georgetown International Relations Association (GIRA)'s second ever Sustainable Development Goal Youth Summit, to be held November 16th, 2024 on Georgetown University’s campus.
The SDG Youth Summit will offer both educational workshops on a select set of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as well as opportunities for students to learn how to apply the SDGs to their local communities and create meaningful action plans to "bring it home," engaging with local partner organizations and completing leadership exercises. This iteration's summit will be facilitated by Georgetown students and professional speakers, focusing on the following five SDGs:
SDG 3: Good Health and Well Being
SDG 4: Gender Inequality
SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth
SDG 14: Life Below Water
The SDG Youth Summit aims to further GIRA Local's mission of promoting youth International Relations (IR) education while carving a space for students to explore their IR interests in an engaging and accessible manner. Not only will it challenge students to think creatively, collaborate, and challenge themselves, but it will empower them to become leaders in their own communities on the issues that are important to young people globally. Most importantly, though, we are committed to making it a safe, engaging, and enjoyable conference for all of those involved, as the SDG Summit builds on nearly six decades of experience running premier conferences and will be staffed by Georgetown students enrolled in one of the most respected International Relations programs in the world.

Conference Materials for Prep
Attire
Attire for all MUN Conferences is business casual. This means that one should wear khakis or dress pants, a button down shirt, a tie, and you may wear a jacket. Or one could wear a skirt or dress pants and a button down shirt and nice shoes. In MUN students do NOT dress in clothing from the country they are representing.
