We had a wonderful day of professional learning here at Maple Grove this week for all staff. Just a reminder that we have about 2 days each month where we will not have school due to teacher directed planning, compensation days, or professional learning days. Maple Grove Walk-A-Thon WOW:

We did it families! We raised over $20,000 for our Maple Grove PTA. This fundraiser was a huge success thanks to our students and the support you provided them in fundraising. We are excited to have llamas join us here at school the week of October 14. Be sure to check our Facebook Page for not only videos of our Walk-A-Thon and assembly, but to see pictures of our llama encounter in a few weeks. Thank you again for your HUGE support!

Hy Vee Receipt Collections:

In case you didn't hear, Maple Grove collects Hy Vee Receipts from local Hy Vee stores, drugstores, and gas stations (Cedar Rapids/Marion) in order to earn money for our school. We have currently earned $122.89 to be brought back to the school (which means we've collected over $24,000 in receipts so far!). Our goal is to earn $110/month, so be sure to keep sending those Hy Vee Receipts into school with your child. See the flyer below for more information.

America Reads is Friday, Oct 18th! This yearly city-wide day celebrates a love of reading, asking neighbors, grandparents, community members, parents, and other friends of education to read to students in classrooms across Cedar Rapids area schools!

FALL for Books at Maple Grove! Bring the family and celebrate a love of books at our Fall for Books Family Party and our Fall Scholastic Book Fair! We need YOUR help to make these events a success for our whole Maple Grove community!

Fall for Books Family Party, Tuesday Oct. 15th 4pm-6pm in Library & Reading area/hallway
Dress up as your favorite book character, enjoy some light refreshments, participate in book related activities, and listen to stories from some surprise guest readers!

Ever wonder what your teachers do on teacher in-service days? We learn just like our students!

This past Monday we had a full day of new learning around a district initiative called Instructional Empowerment. This new initiative focuses on not only standards aligned teaching, but also on creating experiences for students to lead their learning through intentional group work.

Keep your eyes peeled on our Facebook page to see some of our learning in action within the classrooms in the upcoming months. Our goal is high engagement leading to improved student learning.
