HOW TO BUILD A RESUME

Work resumes summarize work experience and skills to help potential employers assess job applicants. Even with online application processes, having information accessible in a resume is a great way to help speed up the online application process.
Resumes are also tools for college and scholarship applications. Because many students applying to colleges do not have professional work experience, we often call these ‘activities resumes’ as they can focus on extra-curricular activities, honors, volunteer service and more.
An activities resume can help admission and scholarship committees better understand who you are, what you are passionate about, your skills, leadership experience, etc.

You can complete your resume in any word processing program. If you do that, we encourage you to consider moving your text into Canva when you are a senior. Another option is to use the EducationQuest (EQ) resume tool. CLICK HERE for a resource on creating your EQ account and getting started.

This example uses a very basic Canva resume template. You don't have to go this basic but be careful not to go too crazy with color and formatting. Resumes need to be very professional.
