D93 Family Update
September 5, 2024
Scott Woolstenhulme
This was the message that I closed with when I welcomed our teachers and support staff members back last week. For me, it was an important reminder of how much difference a kind word, a soft answer, or a smile can make in someone else's day. As we move past the fall equinox in a few short weeks and our daylight fades sooner and appears later, I hope we will try to be the light for those around us.
Next Week's Schedule
Middle School and High School Intervention Monday
Monday, September 9th is the first Intervention Monday of the year. Please remember that Mondays are still school days for middle school and high school students. All students should plan to attend school unless you have been notified that they are excused to participate in extended learning opportunities at home. And all students are still welcome to attend school on Mondays, even if they have been excused from in-person attendance.
Also, your student's PowerSchool should show two extra classes titled "Intervention Block 1A and Intervention Block 2A". The intervention blocks had to be added to every students schedule so that we could accurately take attendance on Mondays. This change will ensure that we are accurately reporting student attendance to the state for Monday Intervention and support time.
Idaho Parental Rights in Medical Decision-Making Act
Thank you for responding to the texts we sent throughout this past week to ask for your consent to provide care for students who get nose bleeds, scrapes and small cuts, bumps and bruises, bee stings, or other injuries or illnesses.
Our text messaging was not flawless. Protections against spamming kept some families from receiving texts for more than two children. And in other cases, some families received back to back texts before they could confirm their response to the first text. But, as of tonight, we had more than 10,000 families respond with more than 99% providing their consent. Thank you for your help in helping us to comply with this law.
Any students whose parents/guardians responded with "No" to the text message or who did not reply to the text message will have the icon to the left as an alert in PowerSchool. This will alert school employees that we cannot provide care to students without parental permission first.
We will still continue to send out text messages to families who have not responded until we are confident that everyone has had the opportunity to respond. If we do not have a response from you, then our school administrative staff will likely reach out to make sure you have had the opportunity to provide consent if you wish to. Going forward, we will build this consent into our registration forms so that you will not have to repeat the process of replying to text messages again.
Inaugural Civil War Game
at Hillcrest's Westmark Stadium
Thank You
Their donations, along with donated labor and work from Crystal Homes, Rocky Mountain Supply, and Valley Ready Mix that made this possible.
We are also grateful to the School Board for supporting their efforts and approving the necessary up-front funds to build the stadium, allowing donations from key community partners and donors to come in over the next several years.
We also want to acknowledge all of the efforts from the Hillcrest administration who volunteered countless hours of their time working to make their dream of a home stadium for Hillcrest a reality. Their vision and commitment drove this project forward.
Home Game at Thunder Ridge High School
Due to the air conditions in the Treasure Valley, Thunder Ridge's football game against Centennial High School has been moved to Thunder Ridge on Friday night. Anyone who wants to enjoy Friday night lights without having to get to the game three hours early to sit in the stadium can head over to 1st Street to catch a great game there as well.
Bonneville and Hillcrest Communities:
Because this is all new to fans on both sides of the district, we want to share some pertinent information with you so we can create the best fan experience possible. We understand that we will never be able to please everyone at an event of this magnitude, but we hope to set clear expectations to make things easier as we adjust to a new venue.
Ticketing: Pre-sale tickets are available on the Idafan App: https://idahofan.com/
- You will need to create an account if you don’t already have one. **The purchase of a ticket in
advance does not guarantee you will have a bleacher seat. This will expedite your time
standing in line.
Parking: Please cooperate with the Sheriff’s Department personnel who will be in the parking lot directing traffic. We ask that you park in marked parking spots and out of the traffic lanes. We will have candlestick cones in areas where people may not park. At the conclusion of the game, the driveway on the West side of the field by the softball area will be closed. Please follow the directions of our law enforcement as you leave campus. See the picture on the link for more details: https://tinyurl.com/3zjyt6cz.
Gates open for Bonneville fans at 5:15 p.m. The HHS community and donors will be having a ribbon
cutting ceremony for Westmark Stadium at 4:30 p.m. This should be a fun event and we appreciate the cooperation of all fans to respect this event. The Bonneville Administration will support this event by ensuring no one is saving visitor seating before gates open. Hillcrest fans must purchase their game ticket or have a season pass to get into the stadium for the ribbon cutting. Here’s a short video with Deputy Dan Sperry regarding gate entrances, where to stand in line, and how to exit the stadium: https://tinyurl.com/3tb2pmyr
Seating: Obviously there isn’t as much seating at Westmark Stadium as there is at Thunder Stadium
behind Bonneville HS. The Hillcrest and Bonneville principals made a short video explaining the seating
and standing room around the stadium: https://tinyurl.com/yhavewct
Halftime: There will be a 15:00 halftime to allow for halftime performances and the Teton Toyota Rav4 drawing. At the conclusion of those festivities, we’ll ensure the teams have 3:00 to warm up.
Postgame: No students from either school will be allowed on the field post game. We started this at the 2023 game at Thunder Stadium.
There is not a lot of room for kids to run around or congregate. Please keep your children seated with you during the game. Administrators from both schools and SROs will circulate the area by the food trucks on the north end of the stadium to make sure there is room to keep foot traffic moving.
If you choose to watch the game at home, Hillcrest will have a live commentary feed for free at the
following website: https://tinyurl.com/47adw7ey
We are excited for this event and look forward to seeing you at Westmark Stadium!
