Principal's Message
Dear TCI Families,
It is hard to believe May is here and it is the end of our school year! We have many activities coming up over the next couple of weeks. Please be sure to check the dates and times of all events.
This is our last newsletter for the year. It has been my honor to have served this community and meet all the students and families who have come through Cox Intermediate. I am proud that Ms. Liz Koehler will serve as the new Principal of Cox, I can't think of a better fit for this campus.
Ms. Koehler will bring a positive energy and fresh ideas. She has previously served at both Cox and Clark Intermediates and lives in the GOHS feeder community. I know she will do an amazing job!
I wish you all the best and hope you have an awesome summer filled with family, fun, and adventure! See you around!
Sincerely,
Deborah Spoon

TCI ACADEMICS!
5TH GRADE ELA
5TH GRADE MATH
In the month of May, Advanced Math will be wrapping up the integers unit and taking our last major grade. After the integers unit, we will be revisiting a few 6th grade topics to get make sure the students are prepared for next year. Each class will also have the students engaging in different types of projects to round out the year.
5TH GRADE SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES
Students are doing a research project over an animal! They are becoming an expert on one animal of their choosing. We will also be working on some different STEM projects for the next couple weeks.
Social Studies:
Students will be learning all about WWI and WWII. They will be able to explain the significance of issues and events of the 20th century such as industrialization, urbanization, the Great Depression, the world wars, the civil rights movement, and military actions.
6TH GRADE ELA
Happy May! What a year! It has gone by fast and we are so excited about how our team is closing out our year. We have so many wonderful things planned.
In Reading we just finished our fiction unit where we looked at various powers and different perspectives. This is a great way to get our students prepared and ready for 7th grade work.
In Writing we are writing and publishing our very own fictional stories. It has been a great way to see our unique and creative storytellers. Our publishing will be done via Book Creator, a new technological application that is available to or students.
We wish a wonderful May for you all!
6TH GRADE MATH
The 6th grade advanced math students will be finishing up the school year with a short unit on Probability. This is a fun unit that students enjoy! We have had a wonderful year of learning so many new skills. Have a fantastic summer! Good luck at York next year!
6TH GRADE SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES
In Science we will explore the difference between biotic and abiotic factors within various ecosystems. In Social Studies we will look at the geography, history and cultures of Australia and other countries in the Oceania region.
May is a very busy month with end of the year activities. Below are a few tips to help you be successful for the remainder of the year:
get plenty of rest
take breaks from your phone and social media
be on time to school, practices, etc
eat a healthy breakfast
follow directions
relax and take a deep breath during stressful moments
As we close out the year together, we will miss our 6th graders as they move to 7th grade and become Grizzlies. We wish them the very best of luck. We cannot wait to see you in a few years as Grand Oaks High School graduates. As for our 5th graders, we cannot wait to see you again in the fall and we look forward to seeing all of the amazing things you will accomplish next year as 6th graders.

Rainy/Cold Day Dismissal
If your student is a walker/biker they will be expected to walk or ride their bike on rainy days, unless you and your child have an alternate plan in place. If you choose for your child to be a car-rider on rainy days it is not necessary to complete a transportation change form.
In the case of severe weather (thunderstorms, lightening, blizzard) we may hold walkers/bikers until we feel it is safe for them to walk or ride home. If that does occur we will contact the parent to inform them of the delay. Bus transportation will run as scheduled.
