Freedom Friends,

I am very excited to share some growth opportunities occurring at Freedom for the upcoming year. We are already full with our planned student capacity for the 2024/2025 fall semester and have begun a waiting list for future openings. With our added student capacity, we have added two Success Coaches and additional course opportunities. Honors level courses are added this year for Biology, US History, Language Arts, Algebra, and Geometry. We are also offering Physical Education. To help support these added educational opportunities, we were able to hire additional superstar educators.

Nancy Garousi joins Freedom as our Science lead Success Coach, teaching both Biology and Language Arts. Nancy brings her over 30 years of teaching experience to Freedom, highlighted by a master’s degree in educational administration, and certifications and endorsements including Reading Endorsement K-12, Gifted Endorsement K-12, ESOL Endorsement K-12, Elementary Education, National Board Certification, and Golden Apple winner. She has also led educational teams as a Team Leader and supervised college students from FGCU and UCF.

Sandra Rosabella joins Freedom as our Math lead Success Coach, teaching Algebra, Geometry, and Freedom Math. Since graduating from FGCU with a degree in Secondary Mathematics, she has spent over a decade working as a high school math teacher, high school math coach, and math tutor. Her certifications and endorsements include Mathematics 6-12, Exceptional Student Education, and Elementary Education with an ESOL endorsement.

Kim Furar joins the Freedom team as our Office Manager. Kim’s career in customer service and student support includes most recently working with high school students assisting in reading, math, civics, and history. Her over 20 years of office management experience and student support will be wonderful additions to our program.

As we draw the curtains on a remarkable school year at The Freedom Institute, we celebrate the achievements and bid farewell to our graduating seniors. Christophe, Sofie, and Frank stand out, having left an indelible mark on our institution through their academic prowess, leadership, and vibrant presence within the community. As they embark on the journey to the next chapter of their lives, we commend them for their dedication and wish them success in all their endeavors. The excitement doesn't end with their departure, however, as the word is out and The Freedom Institute finds itself on a waiting list for the Fall semester, a testament to the excellence and reputation we've garnered. We eagerly anticipate welcoming new faces and continuing to nurture a spirit of growth, curiosity, and freedom within our halls.

As always, I am proud to work with such a great group of high schoolers every day!

For ELA, we wrapped up our final exams with a persuasive essay using the rhetorical appeals ethos, pathos, and logos. Students were given multiple topics to choose from and had to take a stance and use rhetorical appeals to support their opinions.

For Consumerism, our final exam consisted of real-life scenarios and financial topics. Students had to read case studies and decide whether the individuals should rent or buy and give specific reasons as to why, including both the advantages and disadvantages of renting a home versus buying a home. In addition, students had to compare and contrast a real banking statement with personal banking notes to decipher errors, checks not cashed yet, deposits still pending, etc. There was some math involved too!

For Career, students had to create a culminating PowerPoint for their final exam mastery. The rubrics students used included slides about career success plans, career road maps and timelines, resumes, favorite guest speakers and field trips, job and internship information, and specific goals for the 24-25 school year. Many students did a fabulous job with this and really showcased their talent and focus!

What a fabulous adventure this first school year at Freedom has been. I had a blast and I look forward to working with a great group of students next year as well. HAPPY SUMMER!

For US Government, the students finished the year with a mastery exam covering content we covered in second semester. They answered a variety of short essay, fill in the blank and list questions. The content covered connected to the Federalist papers, the ratification of the Constitution and the Civil Rights movement.

For Algebra, students completed a 20-question exam covering slope, slope intercept form and exponents.

For Geometry, students completed a 20-question assessment covering solving for unknown angles and sides of various shapes, using various formulas and theorems.

Congratulations to Sofie, Christophe, and Frank! They are our very first graduating class! We are beyond proud of these three and wish them nothing but success in their future!!! SOAR EAGLE!

Our Freedom staff attended the 2024 Florida Homeschool Convention in Orlando, FL over Memorial Day weekend. We had a booth marketing Freedom and attended several sessions where we gained a ton of knowledge we can't wait to share with you all. It was a great time and we look forward to being back next year!

Congratulations to Mrs. Cheryl Vonderau on her retirement!!! We absolutely loved having her here at Freedom for our very first year, but we are so excited for her to start living her best retired life! She will be traveling, relaxing, and spending time with her grandson, Cooper. You will be missed!!!!!

The Freedom Institute was so honored to have Governor Ron DeSantis visit us and speak to our students, families, and community members about the importance of parental choice for education. His visit was exciting, and we are thankful he took the time out of his busy schedule to visit and support us.

Our senior, Sofie, is University of South Florida bound! We are SO proud of her! GO BULLS!

Freedom has limited enrollment availability for the 2024-2025 school year. Building tours are still available and we would love to show you around our Freedom facility.
