MMS Hybrid Model Proposal
If we were to close and need to transition back to school
Rationale
If we had staffing concerns and needed to implement a hybrid model in between a full school opening and a full school closure.
Goals of a Hybrid Model
- Promote student and staff safety
- Reduce student population on a daily basis
- Increase social distancing in the classrooms and hallways
- Decrease impact of contact tracing and quarantines on daily operations
- Staffing challenges would be decreased
- Maintain high quality in person and remote teaching
- Maintain the feeling of community and relationship between the staff and students
What Will Remain the Same?
- School start and end time (7:53 am - 2:40 pm)
- Daily class schedule
- Bus transportation times
- Your classes (though teachers/students may change)
- Lunch and assigned seating*
- After School Activities
- Safety Procedures and Protocols
What Will Be Different?
- Who will be at school on certain days
- Fewer students on buses
- Fewer students at lunch (may be changes in assigned seating)
- Fewer students in the hallways
Instructional Hybrid Model
- Teachers would develop and facilitate 4 lessons a week in their core class- 2 in person and 2 remote
- Flex Class would meet once a week on Wednesday
- Houses will focus on our SEL curriculum
- Lessons should be made available to students by Monday morning at 7:40 am.
Staffing Challenges
A hybrid model can also help us with potential staffing problems due to quarantine teachers and aides. Staff will work together to implement the in person and remote teaching plans.
Here are a few examples:
Caitilin will implement and facilitate the in person social studies lessons for 7th and 8th grade.
Robin will implement and facilitate the remote social studies lessons for 7th and 8th grade.
The two will collaborate to ensure our standard for quality teaching.
Andrew will implement and facilitate the in person math lessons for 7th and 8th grade.
Naia will implement and facilitate the remote lessons for math lessons for 7th and 8th grade.
The above are just a few examples. If we choose this option student schedules will have to change and we will have to combine classes to make sure there is room in the schedule for the teachers to teach both grade levels in person.
