5th Grade Parent Night April 24th!
Mt. Spurr Volcano
Preparing for potential eruption
In the case of an eruption, the greatest risk to Mat-Su residents is ash fall.
In the case of an eruption and disruptive ash fall, MSBSD school leaders are prepared to coordinate with Borough and state officials to determine the best course of action for our schools. Depending on the time of day, size of the eruption, weather patterns, and other factors, potential responses **could** include school cancellations, early dismissals, or shelter-in-place protocols.
In the event of an emergency, MSBSD will use our mass communication systems to send text messages, phone calls, and emails to families. Updates will also be posted on our MSBSD website at www.matsuk12.us as well as the Facebook page.
A helpful resource for family and community preparation for this possible volcanic event is https://ready.alaska.gov/

Alaska System of Academic Readiness (AK STAR)
AK STAR (Alaska System of Academic Readiness) testing is coming soon! Our state-mandated summative assessments are comprised of two assessments: AK STAR and Alaska Science.
April 10th - SCI test (8th grade only)
April 15th – AK STAR (ELA)
April 16th – AK STAR (Math)
AK STAR is a combination of a summative assessment and MAP growth. Students WILL NOT be taking the usual MAP assessments in the spring as in other years prior. The AK STAR will give a summative test score and also a MAP test score (but all in one test). With this being said, we will be using this data for course placement for the 2023-2024 school year. It is very important your students is in attendance for these tests. If you have questions regarding the AK STAR, please contact your alpha counselor.
