School's (Almost) Out For Summer!
Dear Families,
I am always amazed at how quickly school years go by. It seems like just a few weeks ago, we welcomed all of our students back to school. And now, here we are, counting down to the last day of school.
Both students and teachers look forward to summer. Who doesn't look forward to sleeping in, going swimming, and watching TV? Ten months of hard work definitely deserves two months of relaxation.
But just because it's summer doesn't mean learning stops. There are so many ways to sneak in some student learning during their time off.
- Cooking and baking help students practice reading, following directions, and measurement.
- Play board games as a family to practice reading, math, and social skills such as taking turns and being a good loser.
- Visit the zoo, go to a museum, or take a hike to learn about science.
- Hang out at the pool, play at the park, or take a bike ride to keep your PE skills sharp while getting some exercise.
- Turn off the tv for 30 minutes for DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) time. Schedule this time or make it exciting and have DEAR at random, surprise times.
Keeping a scheduled bedtime will ensure that your child is well rested so they stay in a good mood. No one likes a cranky kid during the summer! A regularly scheduled bedtime also makes transitioning back to school much easier in August.
Have a fun and relaxing summer! Make sure that learning continues to happen every day. And we are already looking forward to seeing everyone bright and early at 7:40 am on August 1st!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Chandler
