Congratulations to the Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble on national recognition through the Foundation For Music Education's Citation of Excellence (non-varsity) and Mark of Excellence (varsity) recorded.

The Mark of Excellence project seeks to recognize and award outstanding achievement in performance by high school and middle school bands, choirs and orchestras. The project gathers entries from throughout the United States and provides valuable feedback for all entrants. A unique competitive environment is created which allows ensembles to compare their performance quality to other outstanding groups from across the country. The top 25% of entrants are recognized as National Winners, with the second 25% named as Commended Winners.

The end of the 6 weeks UIL eligibility grading period is this week.

We need wind and percussion players for the musical! We primarily invite Wind Symphony and select Jazz Band students to fill the spots because of the difficulty and amount of music. It is easier for dual credit students who have a free 6th period on Tuesdays and Thursdays to participate. We will need the following positions filled:

• 2-3 flutes
  
• 1 oboe
  
• 2-3 clarinets
  
• 2-3 trumpets
  
• 3 horns
  
• 2-3 trombones
  
• 1 tuba
  
• 2 percussion

The schedule is busy for the musical rehearsals- November 8th and November 15th after school, and then the first two weeks of January after the break until January 21st have after-school rehearsals. Please consider that as you decide.

• If you need to be excused for that time occasionally for another club/school activity, please let me know at least 1 day in advance so I can plan accordingly or possibly help you do both things.

NEW- LOCATION CHANGE FOR AUDITIONS

• Region Jazz Auditions have moved to PLANO SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL. Date is still Wednesday, September 20th.
• The following students owe $11 for the region jazz audition entry: Landen Johnson, Bradley Quartel, Nikita Simonenko, George Wade.

We will continue to learn new tunes, new scale patterns, challenge our improvisational skills, and listen to our all-state etude performances.

**Warm Up Jackets/Pants can be worn in wet/cold weather as long as we take good care of them. Remember these are considered the same as "performance attire" - please treat them with just as much care as you would your costume

Class this week: Finish up Part 3 and starting Part 4!

• Bring all equipment to the gym EVERY day
• Everyone should always have 1 roll of black and white electrical tape WITH their equipment for emergencies. Don't rely on the guard box to always have everything you need. It will not always be with us
• Orange tape should arrive Monday for everyone who needs to finish taping
• Do your homework! Make plans to visit your teachers/the testing center THIS WEEK. Do not wait until the last minute. We still have a LOT of people needing to take care of missing work/failing grades

Wylie ISD has approved the school calendar for 2023-24. This includes a fall break; however, all athletic and fine arts contests, rehearsals and productions will still run during that week. Meaning, even though WISD has a fall break scheduled, there will still be a football game and contests. This means there will be rehearsals too. Below is our plan for that week, so if you are looking to go away some time, here are the dates we will have games, rehearsals and contests.

OCTOBER 5-14 Schedule

• Thursday, October 5 - Football Game (4:30PM-11PM)
• Saturday, October 7 - McKinney Marching Invitational
• Sunday, October 8-Wednesday, October 11 (4 days) - NO REHEARSAL
• Thursday, October 12 - Competition Marching Rehearsal 9AM-4PM
• Friday, October 13 - Competition Marching Rehearsal 9AM-Noon
• Friday, October 13 - Football Game vs. Wylie East HS - 5PM-10:30PM
• Saturday, October 14 - UIL Regional Marching Contest (advancement to Area Level)

1. Copy the URL for the Google Calendar you want to add to your iPhone
   
2. On your iPhone tap the Settings icon, then scroll down and select Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
   
3. Select Add Account and select Other
   
4. Select the Add Subscribed Calendar option, fill in the Google Calendar URL in the Server box and click Next. Change any settings you see fit before saving the calendar. You do not need a username or password.
   
5. Toggle your view of the subscribed calendar by opening the Calendar app and tapping Calendars in the upper left corner. Tap a calendar name to either display or remove calendar events.
