FOUNDATION FOR MUSIC EDUCATION NATIONAL AWARDS
Congratulations to the Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble on national recognition through the Foundation For Music Education's Citation of Excellence (non-varsity) and Mark of Excellence (varsity) recorded.
The Mark of Excellence project seeks to recognize and award outstanding achievement in performance by high school and middle school bands, choirs and orchestras. The project gathers entries from throughout the United States and provides valuable feedback for all entrants. A unique competitive environment is created which allows ensembles to compare their performance quality to other outstanding groups from across the country. The top 25% of entrants are recognized as National Winners, with the second 25% named as Commended Winners.

The end of the 6 weeks UIL eligibility grading period is this week.

WIND SYMPHONY

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST- PIT MUSICIANS NEEDED
We need wind and percussion players for the musical! We primarily invite Wind Symphony and select Jazz Band students to fill the spots because of the difficulty and amount of music. It is easier for dual credit students who have a free 6th period on Tuesdays and Thursdays to participate. We will need the following positions filled:
- 2-3 flutes
- 1 oboe
- 2-3 clarinets
- 2-3 trumpets
- 3 horns
- 2-3 trombones
- 1 tuba
- 2 percussion
The schedule is busy for the musical rehearsals- November 8th and November 15th after school, and then the first two weeks of January after the break until January 21st have after-school rehearsals. Please consider that as you decide.

WIND ENSEMBLE
Extended Rehearsals
- 12:40-12:55 pm Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday
- If you need to be excused for that time occasionally for another club/school activity, please let me know at least 1 day in advance so I can plan accordingly or possibly help you do both things.
Students not marching a spot in the competition band
- Daily Drill and Technique with a director
- All-State Music Practice and Pass-Offs for a director
Working on memorized music including 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th movements of marching show

JAZZ BAND
NEW- LOCATION CHANGE FOR AUDITIONS
- Region Jazz Auditions have moved to PLANO SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL. Date is still Wednesday, September 20th.
- The following students owe $11 for the region jazz audition entry: Landen Johnson, Bradley Quartel, Nikita Simonenko, George Wade.
We will continue to learn new tunes, new scale patterns, challenge our improvisational skills, and listen to our all-state etude performances.
PERCUSSION

**Warm Up Jackets/Pants can be worn in wet/cold weather as long as we take good care of them. Remember these are considered the same as "performance attire" - please treat them with just as much care as you would your costume
Class this week: Finish up Part 3 and starting Part 4!
- Bring all equipment to the gym EVERY day
- Everyone should always have 1 roll of black and white electrical tape WITH their equipment for emergencies. Don't rely on the guard box to always have everything you need. It will not always be with us
- Orange tape should arrive Monday for everyone who needs to finish taping
- Do your homework! Make plans to visit your teachers/the testing center THIS WEEK. Do not wait until the last minute. We still have a LOT of people needing to take care of missing work/failing grades
