Speed Camera on Sweitzer Lane
As we continue to improve the safety measures in our school and the surrounding area, please be aware that a speed camera has been placed on Sweitzer Lane to curb the recurring individuals from speeding down that road. Be mindful when driving down that road and look out for our scholars.

Tutoring is here!
It's that time of year! Tutoring is in full effect. Math tutoring is held Monday and Tuesday and Reading Tutoring is held on Thursday and Friday from 3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. These programs are by invitation only. Participants received an invitation and had to accept the invitation.
Saturday Academy is here!
Saturday Academy has begun. Students who were invited and accepted the invitation prior to the deadline should report to the back of the school for drop off at 9:00 a.m. Pick up will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m. Please make sure to be on time for drop off and pick up.
*Clubs Have Started*
Greetings Parents/Guardians! The club lottery has closed and those selected received notification. Clubs started on October 14, 2024. Clubs will be held IN PERSON after the 2:25 p.m.-2:55 p.m. school dismissal. Club decisions are final. If your child was not selected in the initial lottery they have been waitlisted. Club times are from 3:00-4:00 p.m. on the days specified. Clubs students must be picked up at 4:00 p.m.

Nurse Updates
A Message from Nurse Ann
It is imperative that we are aware of any health issues. Please update the school nurse for any new or important medical information. Our immunization compliance is almost at 100% please continue to forward documentation to the nurse.
Please help yourself and others -- keep your scholars home when they are not well.
Immunizations
Immunizations must be up-to-date and received by the school nurse to prevent exclusion from school.
Medication forms are attached. Please hand carry newly prescribed medication in the pharmacy packaging. Any adult may deliver the medication to the nurse. (appointments must be made)
PTO
Thank you to our Tiger Families as we have raised a total $42,512 in this year's Read-a-thon! We are very grateful for the support of over 25% of the school in this effort! Congratulations to Mrs Shulman's Kindergarten class for raising the most funds! We will hold a raffle for our exciting grand prizes and will be sharing more information with families that earned prizes.

On behalf of the Health Awareness & Fitness Day Committee, we want to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of our 6th Annual Health Awareness and Fitness Day. Thank you to the PTO for sponsoring this event and for your continuous support. To all the volunteers, presenters, vendors, and special guests—your dedication made a real difference and created a memorable day for all. We also thank our school community, family, and friends for coming out to support us.
A special thank you to our principal, Dr. Fryson, and the Admin Team for allowing and supporting this important initiative. ELA: We will talk about the steps in a sequence of a story; what is first, next, and last in a story. We will review adjectives, and digraphs - /Sh/- Introduce /sh/ categorize pictures that have /sh/ in the beginning and end of words.

Social Studies: We will learn about American Heroes.
Math: We are working on addition and understanding how we can use manipulatives to help us with counting and adding together.
Science: We will finish up our lesson about sunlight and learn about the importance of having a shelter.
Friendly reminder: If your scholar has a fever or is not feeling well, please keep them home until their symptoms are gone for at least 24 hours. We are trying to alleviate the spread of germs within our classrooms.

Spectacular Second Grade News!
Thank you as well for attending our Second Grade Team Parent University! We hope the information shared was both informative and helpful.
Next week in Reading, we will continue with Unit 2, Nature’s Wonders with a focus on Realistic Fiction. In Phonics, we will be decoding words with the vowel digraph ie. In Math, we will take the Topic 5 assessment and begin Topic 6, which focuses on subtracting within 100.
In Science, we will continue chapter 2 lesson 3, Matter within Objects. In Social Studies, we will chapter 2, People, Places, and Nature.
As we continue settling into the school year, we kindly ask for your support in reinforcing our school motto with your scholar:

Third Grade
Terrific Third Grade News!
In Social Studies, students will wrap up Chapter 2 with a review, then take the Chapter 2 assessment. We will also begin Chapter 3: Communities Build a Nation.
In Math, we are finishing up our unit on calculating the area of rectangles and are moving on to representing data on graphs and tables. Expect an extra credit assignment for our test in the middle of the week.
In Science, we have finished up our unit on electric and magnetic forces and are starting a new section on weather. Topics for our STEM fair project have been submitted. Approved topics should be coming out soon so scholars can get started early.
We will be going on a field trip to the Maryland Science Center on December 6, 2024. Students brought home their permission slip today. All payments and permission slips are due on December 1, 2024. Please complete the payment on MySchoolBucks and return the permission slip before the due date.

Tigers! Tigers! We made it through another week in Quarter 2! Keep up the good work! Remember we are data mining in excellence to enhance stematicians! Let's make sure we are moving forward and persevering in excellence. Let's go Tigers!
Subject Content:
RELA
We will analyze "A place for Frogs" and learn the skill of comparing and contrasting information with different perspectives of opinions. We will also focus on informational texts in writing and learn focus on the writing process by using the 6 Traits of Writing.
Science
In science this week students will describe what makes up the atmosphere. Students will describe what makes up the hydrosphere.
Math
This week in math, we will solve division word problems. We will select from different strategies to divide 3- and 4-digit numbers.
Social Studies
As we enter Chapter 5: The American Revolution, we'll learn about war and why they are important to some. We'll discuss fighting for freedom, tensions with Great Britain, Declaring Independence, Winning it and what that looked like on the battlefield and at home for the soldiers and everyone else involved. We're so eager to explore all of the knowledge and reasonings of the past. Let's go Tigers!!

5th Grade Team
Creative Arts
Superior Specials News!
Kindergarteners are working on Lines and Shapes. We have reviewed safe scissor use and techniques.
Students will create their own artwork focused on lines and shapes and experiment with collage.
First graders are finishing a project called,
I Love My Hair!
Students will create a portrait with an abstract hair design that depicts a particular mood or feeling, using line, repetition, pattern, and color.
Second graders are creating imaginary creatures in
“Monster Mashup”
Students will present their never-before-seen creature hybrids by combining parts from five animals, to create one in its habitat. We will critique next week.
Third graders are making Patterned Landscapes. Students will create a landscape that contains patterns.
Fourth grade, Names Revealed Through Color:
Students are creating geometric name designs using color, shapes, lines, and text to express an aspect of their personality. They will submit Artist Statements next week along with a critique.
Fifth graders are making “Monster Line Drawings” Students create illustrations from random markings to create a 3D image with form and texture. Artist Statements and reviews are due next week.
Music
Hello!!! K has finished doing activities that teaches them the appropriate times to use our voice for talking, singing, shouting, and whispering. 1st & 2nd grade have been learning about weak and strong beats. 3rd grade is creating their own rhythms/patterns using cups. 4th and 5th grade are beginning their group project in creating their own rhythm for the drums and melody for the piano!
Technology
K-2 students practiced:Introduction to Digital Citizenship: Cyberbullying
3-5 students practiced: Commenting in the Virtual Classroom
In this animated video-based learning activity Trey introduces the learner to an online classroom, his class message board, the right ways to leave comments online, and what to do if you see someone cyberbullying.
PE
Good week! This week we will be continuing to work on our procedures of class in order to prepare us for next week's activity. Please remember to make sure your scholar is in sneakers! Have a great week!
LEGO
Hello! We are continuing to move through the curriculum and Lego lessons. We will be working on the following:
K-1: XL World: Outdoor Activities
2: Science in Nature & Our Daily Life: Building chicken coops
3: Animals & Their Environment: Animal Behaviors
4-5: Science Connection: Energy Resources.
STEM II
This week our Kinder & 1st: Continued with our creating our bats to go along with the story Amara and the bats. We designed and added wings this week.
2nd: Continued with creating their structure to protect food. These structures are looking really good!
3rd: Continued with building their games.These games are really creative!
4th: This week scholars cut out their patterns from the fabric.They are so excited about seeing their designs come to life! Next week we begin assembling and sewing!
5th:Completed creating their shelters and began presenting their commercials and testing their shelters ability to withstand wind and rain in front of the class.
Counselor's Corner!
Hey there, CMIT NES Families! Our K-2 students just wrapped up some awesome lessons on emotions and feelings with the school counselor and now it's time for 3rd through 5th grade to dive in! We're all about recognizing and expressing our BIG emotions in a healthy way. From practicing deep breathing to learning how to talk about what we feel, these sessions will help students navigate anything that comes their way. Get ready to explore how we can calm our minds, take deep breaths, and understand the power of expressing our emotions!
