Schools of Choice Process Now Open
The Schools of Choice annual open enrollment process runs from December 1, 2023, and ends on December 31, 2023. Families interested in the process should visit the Schools of Choice website, where you will find important information about how to apply or schedule an appointment if you need assistance. There are step-by-step instructions on how to submit your application and a Frequently Asked Questions guide to help answer any questions you may have about the process.

Reminder: Child Welfare & Attendance will be closed during Winter Break from December 22, 2023, through January 7, 2023, and will be unavailable to answer questions during that time.
Whitney Students Win App Challenge
Gavin-kai Vida, Christopher Vu, and Angad Batra of Gretchen Whitney High School took first place in the Congressional App Challenge sponsored by Congresswoman Michelle Steel. The students created the Eco Tracker, enabling users to track their carbon footprint, compare it to that of others, and find ways to reduce it. The first-place app was determined by a panel of judges comprised of computer science experts from California State University, Fullerton, University of California, Irvine, and STARBASE Los Alamitos. The Congressional App Challenge was created by Congress to recognize the importance of developing STEM and computer-based skills.
Nixon Students Lead the Flag Salute
Nixon Jaguars led the flag salute at a recent City of Cerritos Planning Commission meeting. Thank you to the City of Cerritos for giving our students this opportunity.
Artesia Band Wins Parade Competition
The Artesia High School Pioneer Regiment marching band performed at the Pomona Holiday Parade. Although a holiday event, the parade does have a competitive element, and Artesia took home the Sweepstakes prize for their performance. Congratulations, Pioneers!
Girl Scouts and Daisy Troop Support ABC Students in Need
Engineering Students Receive New 3D Printers
Artesia High School Project Lead the Way students now have new tools to make their projects come to life. Thanks to funding through the Career Technical Education Incentive Grant from the State of California, these students now have brand new 3D printers, enhancing the curriculum offered through this program.
Carmenita Broadcast Students Visit SoFi Stadium
The Carmenita Middle School television broadcast class embarked on an exciting field trip to Sofi Stadium, giving students a behind-the-scenes look at a state-of-the-art facility and gaining
insights into professional broadcast operations. The highlight of the trip was an exclusive tour of the broadcast room, where students had the opportunity to witness firsthand the sophisticated technology and equipment used for live broadcasts. They learned about the intricacies of producing high-quality content for large-scale events and gained valuable insights into the world of sports broadcasting.
Auto Students Have New Car to Work On
Students in the Auto Career Pathway at Artesia High School now have a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro to work on, getting valuable hands-on experience. The car comes from Cerritos College’s Automotive Technology Division, which supports our dual enrollment program where students can earn college credits while attending high school.

The City of Artesia recognized ABCUSD at this week’s City Council meeting. The Council presented the District with a plaque commemorating the valuable partnership between the City and the District. Board President Mrs. Sophia Tse, Vice President Mr. Ernie Nishii, Member Dr. Michael Eugenio, Superintendent Dr. Gina Zietlow, Burbank Elementary School Principal Ms. Michele Robinson, Elliott Elementary School Principal Ms. Lora Ballard, and Kennedy Elementary School Mr. Robert Benko were on hand to receive this important award from outgoing Mayor Monica Manalo and her Council colleagues.

In 1965 the Artesia, Bloomfield, and Carmenita School Districts unified and became the ABC Unified School District. Today, the District serves over 20,000 Pre-K to 12th Grade and adult education students through its 30 campuses, adult school, and virtual academy. The District is home to some of the most awarded and recognized schools in California and serves the cities of Artesia, most of Cerritos, Hawaiian Gardens, as well as portions of Lakewood, Long Beach, and Norwalk.
